That is a wrap for the NSS Clay Target shooting rounds, and Bream Bay College has really shone this year.

Congratulations to Tayla, who took out the 2026 NSS Single Barrel title. Great shooting, Tayla!

BBC started the season with two senior shooters, Tama and Tayla, and was joined by Lucas, a junior, during the year. All shooters performed exceptionally well throughout the season. The boys shot consistently, Tama and Tayla were particularly strong in the single barrel, and Lucas was always in the hunt in the single rise.

All three are heading to the Secondary School Clay Target Shooting Nationals in Christchurch during the first weekend of the school holidays. We wish them the best of luck!

While we say goodbye to Tayla and wish her well for next year, we are excited to welcome two new members to the team. We now only need one more shooter to form a full squad.

If you are interested or would like more information, please contact Megan Carran at [email protected].

Soni recently completed a Gateway placement with local builder Dave McCully at Bay Homes, getting hands on experience and insight into what it looks like to work in the building industry.
While Soni is still considering a future career as a plumber, this is what Gateway is all about! It's about giving our students the opportunity to explore different industries and discover what they do and don't see themselves doing as a career.
Here's what Soni had to say..

WHAT MADE YOU INTERESTED IN DOING A GATEWAY PLACEMENT WITHIN THE BUILDING INDUSTRY?
Just learning what to do in that ground work.

WHAT DID YOU LEARN ABOUT WORKING AS PART OF A TEAM?
Communication is needed at all times.

WHAT IS ONE NEW SKILL YOU LEARNT WHILE YOU WERE ON YOUR PLACEMENT?
Using new tools by myself like the dropsaw.

HAS THE PLACEMENT CHANGED YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT WHAT YOU MIGHT LIKE TO DO AFTER SCHOOL?
No, I still want to do plumbing.

WOULD YOU RECOMMEND GATEWAY TO OTHER STUDENTS? WHY?
Yes, I would recommend gateway because it is good learning ground for students especially if they want to do a trade.

What a thrilling contest it was for the Bream Bay College Staff vs. the Year 13 students volleyball game.

We played two exciting games, both to 21 points. The Year 13 students took out the first game 21-18, before winning the second game 21-20 in another incredibly close and exciting match.

It was a fantastic effort from everyone involved, with plenty of energy, competitiveness, and school spirit on display.

On Wednesday, 12 senior boys represented Bream Bay College at the NSS Boys Teams Badminton Tournament held in Whangarei.

Congratulations to Luke, Blake, Cooper, and Alex, who placed 3rd in the Plate division, and to Hayoung, Quinn, Logan, and Joel, who placed 2nd in the Plate division.

It was a great day for all three of our competing teams. Well done to all 12 boys for representing Bream Bay College with pride and commitment. This is an excellent achievement by everyone involved.

We have just completed our inter-house volleyball competition for 2026, with the Year 7–8, Year 9–10, and Year 11–13 divisions competing over the last few weeks.

It was great to see the students out on the court having fun, especially the Year 7–8 students who were so eager to try a new sport.

Congratulations to the houses on the overall results:

- 1st: Sutherland
- 2nd: Ross
- 3rd: Argyll
- 4th: Inverness

Well done to all the students who took part. Thank you also to our senior house leaders who helped umpire and manage substitutions for their teams.

Gateway Experience

Year 12 student Liam recently completed a Gateway placement with a local builder Chrispy Builders.
Liam really enjoyed his time on the job and had the opportunity to gain valuable practical experience, learn new skills and get a real taste of what a career in the building industry can look like.

Here is what Liam had to say:

What made you interested in doing a Gateway placement within the building industry?
I really enjoy trades at school so I was interested in seeing what it would look like to work on a building site.

What did you learn about working as part of a team?
That a lot of building takes teamwork.

What is one new skill you learnt while you were on your placement?
Not so much a skill, but I learnt that building isn't just all about building houses. There is so much more to building that happens behind the scenes which I found interesting.

Has the placement changed your thoughts about what you might like to do after school?
Yes, I really want to get a building apprenticeship.

Would you recommend Gateway to other students? Why?
Yes, I would highly recommend gateway because it shows you what the job you might be interested in is like so it's a good experience to see if it something you want to pursue.
