Kia ora RotoKids whānau 💛

As another term comes to an end, we just want to say a really big thank you to all of our RotoKids whānau for your continued support and for trusting us to care for your tamariki.

We’ve had such an awesome term together — exploring, building, crafting and creating, with plenty of ball tag with Matua Heremia and Matua Waaka along the way!

We genuinely feel so privileged to spend this time with our tamariki and to be able to provide this service for our community. We’re very grateful for the wonderful whānau who continue to support us.

Have a safe and happy break, and we look forward to seeing everyone again in Term 4 for plenty more fun together!

📣 RotoKids Whānau – Kapa Haka Celebration Transport

A reminder that all Rotokawa School tamariki will be performing next Tuesday, 22 September 2026, at Te Hiwi o Toroa – The Rotorua East Kapa Haka Celebration at Ōwhata School.

🌿 Performance Times
• Te Kapa Tupu (Year 0–3) – approx. 10.45am
• Te Kapa Māhuri (Year 4–6) – approx. 12.00pm

🚌 RotoKids Transport

Before School Care:
If your child is booked into Before School Care, bring them to RotoKids at Rotokawa School as usual. The school will organise their transport to Ōwhata School.

After School Care – Short & Full:
If your child is booked into After School Care, the school will organise their return transport from Ōwhata School back to Rotokawa School, where the RotoKids team will be waiting for them.

⚠️ Not booked in that day?
If your child is not booked into RotoKids, you will need to organise their transport to and/or from the event.

If you would like to book them into RotoKids for that day, please let us know before Friday this week so they can be added to the appropriate transport list.

📢 RotoKids Reminder – Closed Friday 21st August

Just a reminder to our RotoKids whānau that Rotokawa School is closed this Friday, 21st August, for a Teacher Only Day.

As the school is closed, RotoKids will also be closed for both Before School Care and After School Care on Friday.

We hope everyone enjoys the long weekend, and we’ll see our tamariki back at RotoKids on Monday 24th August! 💛

🌟 Meet the RotoKids Crew! 🌟

With some familiar faces and a new one joining the team, we thought it was a good time to introduce or reintroduce the whānau behind RotoKids!

RotoKids is very much a whānau-based programme. Whaea Elle and I are sisters, and we work alongside our sons/nephews, Matua Heremia and Matua Waaka. You’ll see different combinations of us at RotoKids at different times, depending on the day, our numbers and the needs of the programme.

Between us, we bring different strengths, interests and experience, but we all share the same goal: providing a warm, friendly and fun environment where every tamaiti feels welcome, supported and part of our RotoKids whānau. 💛

How does our programme run?

RotoKids is teacher-led, meaning our qualified teachers lead the learning and direction of the programme for our tamariki. Activities are planned by our teachers, alongside Matua Heremia, who is currently studying towards his Bachelor of Teaching, and are then carried out by our RotoKids team.

Everything is planned with our tamariki in mind, but flexibility is a big part of how RotoKids works. Once the afternoon gets underway, our team uses their judgement to adapt and facilitate activities based on the children who are with us that day.

Our plans are never set in stone. We’re constantly changing and adapting depending on numbers, weather, available spaces, children’s interests, energy levels and what our tamariki need that day.

Sometimes an activity takes off and becomes something completely different, sometimes the children choose something else, and sometimes a planned activity simply isn’t the right fit for that afternoon — and that’s all part of RotoKids!

You’ll see our team getting involved in sports, games, creative activities, STEM and science, challenges, free play and plenty of fun. Tamariki have opportunities to make choices, follow their own interests and simply enjoy spending time with their friends.

At the heart of it all, we want RotoKids to be a place where our tamariki and their families feel happy, comfortable and excited to be part of the RotoKids Rotorua whānau. ❤️

🌟 RotoKids Week 10 Update 🌟

Here's what we have planned for another fun week at RotoKids:

🧱 Monday – LEGO Club
Get creative with LEGO building challenges and teamwork activities.

🎮 Tuesday – iPad & Minecraft Day
Children can enjoy creative building, problem-solving, and digital fun.

⭐ Wednesday – Matariki Wishing Stars Craft
We'll be making Matariki wishing stars and sharing our hopes and wishes for the year ahead.

✈️ Thursday – STEM: Paper Plane Challenge
Design, build, and test paper planes to see whose can fly the furthest and longest.

🍓 Friday – Fruit Kebabs
We'll be creating colourful fruit kebabs using a variety of fresh fruit for a healthy and delicious afternoon treat.

We look forward to another week of fun, creativity, and learning together!

Here’s what we’re getting up to at RotoKids next week (Week 9):

🧱 Monday – LEGO Club
LEGO Club is always a favourite! The tamariki will work together to build, create, problem-solve, and bring their awesome ideas to life.

🎮 Tuesday – Devices & Minecraft Day
Bring your own device if you'd like, or use our school iPads for Minecraft, games, and creative fun with friends.

🏮 Wednesday – Matariki Memory Lanterns
To celebrate Matariki, the tamariki will create their own paper memory lanterns. We'll take time to remember special people, moments, and things we're grateful for while making a beautiful keepsake to take home.

🪂 Thursday – STEM Parachute Challenge
Our young engineers will design and build parachutes, then put them to the test! We'll explore how air resistance works and see whose parachute can make the slowest and safest landing.

🍩 Friday – Baking: Donut Bites
A delicious end to the week! The tamariki will be making their own baked donut bites, learning simple baking skills while creating a tasty treat to enjoy.
We can't wait for another fun-filled week of learning, creating, and exploring together! 😊💛

🧁 Friday – Baking Day
We're making the viral Sprinkle Dot Cakes! The tamariki will help mix, decorate, and create these colourful treats before enjoying them together. 🌈😋

Plus all the usual outdoor play, games, free choice activities, and time with friends after school. We can't wait for another awesome week together 💛

🎨 Wednesday – Arts & Crafts
We're making our own bookmarks! The tamariki will get creative designing and decorating their bookmarks before we laminate them and add a special charm to finish them off. 📚✨

🔬 Thursday – STEM Science
The tamariki will become engineers as they take on our Spaghetti Bridge Challenge! They'll design, build, and test their bridges to see which structure can hold the most weight. 🌉🏗️

🧁 Friday – Baking Day
Making delicious Brownie Bites together! The tamariki will help measure, mix, bake, and of course enjoy their yummy creations. 🍫😋

Plus all the usual outdoor play, games, free choice activities, and time with friends after school. We can't wait for another awesome week together 💛

🧁 Friday – Baking Day
Making yummy pikelets together! The tamariki will get to help mix, cook, and enjoy their pikelets with tasty toppings 😋
