📣 Attendance Update for Whānau

Kia ora whānau,

We wanted to give our school community a quick heads-up about a new attendance communication system we are introducing.
As part of the Ministry of Education’s attendance requirements, schools are required to keep whānau informed about their child’s attendance.

This is the first time we are using our new automated attendance email system, so some families will receive an email tonight if their child has already been absent for 5, 10 or 15 days this term.

From now on, these emails will be sent automatically when a child reaches 5, 10 or 15 days of absence during a term.
Because the emails are automatically generated, you may still receive one even if you have already contacted the school, your child has been genuinely unwell, or we are already aware of the reason for their absence. If you have kept us informed and don’t require any support, you don’t need to do anything further.

We understand that there are many genuine reasons why tamariki may need to be away from school. We also know that sometimes there can be challenges that make getting to school difficult.

If there is something getting in the way of your child attending regularly, please reach out — we are here to help. We have a range of support available, including help with transport, uniforms, food and stationery, as well as support through our in-school social worker and Public Health Nurses.

Regular attendance makes a real difference to our tamariki’s learning, wellbeing, friendships and sense of belonging at school. Our aim is to work alongside our whānau to support our tamariki to be at school as regularly as possible.

ATTENTION: Whanau of Year 6 tamariki!

This year is racing by and it is time to enrol your tamariki in Intermediate for next year if you have not already done so.

Both Rotorua and Kaitao Intermediate need enrollments in as soon as possible, ideally by the end of this term! This is to ensure that class placements are organised and your tamariki's needs can be met.

Kia ora Whanau,

With school holidays fast approaching, there are organisations available to assist in our local community. Below is some information that is available.

There are Free Hauora clinics in Rotorua for whanau. This is open to all, and held out of local maraes. The locations change each week, and you don’t need to be enrolled with Korowai Aroha. This initiative was set up by three organisations, and is funded by them.

Onsite there is:

Dr and Nurse prac, who can do health checks, prescriptions and bloods
Registered nurse, who can korero about flu, MMR, HPV, whooping cough and immunisations, sexual health, diabetes and ear checks
Mirimiri offered
Respiratory nurse for asthma and breathing support
RAPHS Pharmacist for medicine reviews, advise and questions about prescriptions
Social support offered to help connect to services


No appointment is needed to access this. For up to date information regarding where and when, this is provided on Korowai Aroha page. There is one today from 10-12pm.

Thanks to those whanau who have sent in money. Just a reminder, all notices and money needs to be in this Friday in order to organise teams, coaches and uniforms.

Spaces we currently have:

Year 0 - 2 we are looking for 4 more players
Year 3 - 4 we have space for 3 more players
Year 5 - 6 we have space for 2 more players

If we have an influx of Year 5 and 6 students then we will be able to make another team.
Students who have returned money and notices have been placed in teams.
