🏉 RUGBY LEAGUE CHALLENGE – LET’S PACK THE SIDELINES! 🏉

We’ve been challenged! 💪

Next Tuesday 18 August at 1pm, Te Kura o Te Koutu are coming to Sunset for a rugby league showdown!

Coach Jase has been putting our team through their paces, and we’ve got an awesome group of Year 5 & 6 boys and girls ready to pull on the Sunset colours and represent our kura. 🧡🖤

Now we need our whānau behind them!

📣 We want those sidelines PACKED! Parents, grandparents, aunties, uncles, brothers, sisters — even if your child isn’t playing, come down and cheer our kids on.

Win, lose or draw, these are the experiences our tamariki remember — putting on the school colours, taking the field and representing their kura with pride.

🗓 Tuesday 18 August
⏰ Kick-off: 1pm
📍 Sunset Primary

Massive thanks to Coach Jase for giving his time to coach our kids and get them ready.

Let’s get behind our team, Sunset! See you on the sideline! 🏉🙌

The kids absolutely love these sessions and are getting so much out of them — building confidence, fitness, focus and resilience, all while having plenty of fun! 💪🥊

A huge thanks to the team at Rotovegas Boxing Gym for continuing to provide such an awesome experience for our tamariki. ❤️

☀️ Exciting news for Sunset Primary! ☀️

Yesterday, we received the fantastic news that Sunset Primary has been selected as one of 500 schools across Aotearoa to receive solar panels! 🌱⚡

The panels will be installed on the roof of our school sometime over the next year or so and will help us reduce the amount we spend on electricity.

For us, that means something pretty exciting — more of our school funding can go where we want it most: towards our tamariki. 💙

Every dollar we can save on things like power is a dollar that can instead go towards creating more opportunities, resources, experiences and fun learning for our students.

We’re incredibly thankful to have been selected to be part of this project. Not only is it a great step towards a more sustainable future for our kura, but it will also provide some awesome real-life learning opportunities for our tamariki along the way.

We can’t wait to see those solar panels up on the roof! ☀️🌱

🌋 Volcanoes erupt in Room 2! 🌋

Today, Room 2 topped off their learning about volcanoes with some awesome hands-on fun in the sandpit!

After creating their own mountains out of sand, our young scientists used food coloring, baking soda and vinegar to bring their volcanoes to life — complete with bubbling, exploding lava! 🌋💥

There was plenty of excitement as they watched their creations erupt. The kids absolutely loved putting their learning into action!

What a fun (and slightly messy!) way to finish off their volcano lessons! 🧪🌋😄

What a frosty start to the day! 🥶❄️

With temperatures dropping well below zero this morning, Room 8 took the opportunity to head outside and experience the icy playground. The children had an absolute blast gathering the frozen ice to make their own "snowballs"—a pretty special experience for many of our little learners!

Sometimes the coldest mornings create the warmest memories. What a fun way to embrace a true winter's day! ☃️💙

🚂🍫 All aboard the Tiny Teddy Train! 🍫🚂

This week, our amazing learners in Room 10 have been exploring the letter T with Amy through a week full of hands-on learning. They've been practising writing the letter T, learning its sound, and discovering lots of words that begin with T.

To finish the week with a little Fun Friday magic, our tamariki created their very own Tiny Teddy Trains! 🚂🐻 Using a picture as their guide, each child carefully constructed their chocolatey train, practising their following instructions, fine motor skills, and creativity along the way.

What a fantastic way to bring the letter T to life—through tasty, thoughtful, and terrific learning! Well done, Room 10! 💙✨

Today marked the end of our swimming programme for the year! 🏊💦

A huge thank you to everyone at the Rotorua Aquatic Centre and the SwimMagic team for another fantastic programme. Learning to swim is such an important life skill, especially when we're so lucky to live surrounded by beautiful lakes and streams. Giving our tamariki the skills and confidence to stay safe in the water is something we really value.

A massive thank you also goes to all of our teachers and support staff. These programmes take a lot of extra organisation and effort behind the scenes, and we really appreciate everything you do to make these opportunities possible for our students.

A special shout-out to Whaea Darsh for coordinating the whole programme. You rock! 🌟

Thank you to everyone who helped make this year's programme such a success. We'll do it all again next year! 👏😊
