🌟 THAT’S A WRAP ON TERM 3! 🌟

And just like that, Term 3 is done! What an awesome term it has been, full of great learning, plenty of opportunities, lots of fun and some pretty special moments for our tamariki. ❤️💛

A huge thank you to our whānau for your support throughout the term. We hope you have a wonderful holiday break with your tamariki. Enjoy the time together, have some fun, and most importantly, be safe and well.

Our socials will be pretty quiet for the next two weeks as our amazing teachers and staff take a well-earned break and recharge their batteries ready for one final push in 2026! 🔋😴

We’ll see everyone back at Sunset on Monday 12 October for the start of Term 4 – the final term of 2026! 🎉

👋 What is your name and what do our tamariki call you?
Kia ora, I’m Ange! To the tamariki I’m Whaea Ange… with the odd “Whaea Angela” when someone’s feeling a bit cheeky! 😂

🏡 Where are you from?
Rotorua born and bred! I grew up on a farm in Ngakuru and whakapapa to Ngāpuhi.

📚 What class do you teach?
Room 4, with an awesome bunch of Year 3 and 4s!

🍎 How long have you worked in education?
28 years! Most of that was in Early Childhood. About 4 years ago I started relieving in primary schools and from there took on a few fixed-term teaching positions.

🏫 How long have you been at Sunset?
I started out relieving at Sunset before joining the team full-time in May 2025, team-teaching Year 0/1. This year I’ve got my own Year 3/4 class in Room 4.

❤️ What do you love most about working at Sunset?
It just feels like home. I spent around 9 years at Fordlands Kindergarten, so I’ve been part of this community for a long time. It’s pretty cool that one of the children I taught at kindy now works at Sunset too! I love our tamariki, our whānau and the relationships you build here. We’ve also got a great bunch of staff who are always willing to help, share ideas and have a laugh.

✏️ What is your favourite thing to teach?
I don’t think I have a favourite! I love seeing the progress the kids make and watching their confidence grow when they realise they can do something they once found hard.

🌏 What do you enjoy doing outside of school?
I love travelling and getting away whenever I can – possibly just to avoid the housework! 😂 In winter you’ll usually find me supporting Whakarewarewa Club Rugby ❤️🖤, then swapping the red and black for blue and gold to get behind the Bay! 💙💛 Family is a big part of my life. I have my partner Wayne and two children. My daughter lives in Wellington, works on the ferry ⛴️ and is about to start her own journey into teaching. My son is Year 12 at Boys’ High and keeps us busy with hockey 🏑. Mum and Dad are also here in Rotorua, so I spend lots of time with them too.

✈️ What is something people might not know about you?
I’m the Young Eagles Coordinator at Rotorua Aero Club, so once a month you’ll find me at the airport with our Young Eagles, giving kids the chance to experience aviation and hopefully inspiring a few future pilots along the way.

🌟 🌟 What is one thing you want for our tamariki?
I want our tamariki to be confident in who they are and believe in themselves. I want them to make good choices, learn from their mistakes and know that they get to choose where their life takes them. I want them to enjoy learning, be successful and be proud of what they achieve. Most of all, I want them to know there’s always someone in their corner cheering them on. ❤️

A massive congratulations to our amazing tamariki who achieved 100% attendance this term! 🎉👏

This is a huge achievement, especially through a term filled with cold winter weather, bugs and illness doing the rounds, and all the other challenges that can make getting to school every single day tough.

We are incredibly proud of each of you for showing up, giving it your best, and making every school day count. 💙💛

And a big mihi to the whānau behind our tamariki too — getting children to school every day is a team effort, and your support makes such a difference.

🏀💙 **Sunset Lakers – Year 1/2 Miniball Finals!** 💙🏀

What a way to finish the season! Our **Sunset Lakers** played their finals game on **Monday** against **Te Koutu Whaitiri**, battling it out for **3rd/4th place in their grade**.

It was a **close and exciting game**, with our Lakers giving it their all right until the final whistle! 👏🔥 We’re so proud of the effort, teamwork and determination they showed.

A huge **thank you to Cherry for coaching our team** and supporting the tamariki throughout the season. 💙🏀

And a big thank you to all the **Lakers whānau** for showing up, cheering from the sidelines and helping out each week. Your support has been awesome! 🙌

🐺🏀 **SUNSET WOLVES – FINAL GAME!** 🏀🐺

Last Friday, our **Sunset Wolves Year 5/6 Miniball team** took to the court for their **1st/2nd place final**, facing off against **RPS Heat**. 🏆🏀

Unfortunately, the Wolves went down in the final, but they can be incredibly proud of the way they played and the effort they put in right until the final whistle. 💪👏

It has been awesome watching this team grow throughout the season — building their skills, confidence and teamwork, and most importantly, enjoying playing together. 🐺❤️

A huge thank you to our coaches, Faith and her son Grant, for giving up their time each week, coaching our tamariki and supporting the team throughout the season. 🙌

And a special ngā mihi to all the Wolves families who brought their kids along each week, supported from the sidelines and helped make the season possible. Your commitment and support are hugely appreciated! ❤️

🌋🚌 GEOTHERMAL ADVENTURES AT WAIOTAPU! 🚌🌋

Our little babies from Rooms 8, 10 and 11 jumped into the school vans today and headed off on an awesome adventure to Waiotapu! 😍

After spending the term learning all about geothermal activity, what better way to finish both the learning and the term than getting out there and seeing it all for themselves!

There’s nothing quite like taking learning beyond the classroom — and judging by the smiles on these faces, we reckon today was a pretty big hit! 😁❤️

What an awesome experience for our youngest tamariki and a fantastic way to wrap up another busy term at Sunset.

🌅 MEET THE SUNSET TEAM 🌅

👋 Ko wai au | A little bit about me
Kia ora, my name is Brodie Chung. I get called many things, such as Dad, Uncs, and more often than not, Whaea! 😂

🏡 Where I’m from
I whakapapa to Tainui Waikato, but I’m born and bred here in Rotorua. From a young age, I was surrounded by sport and it has always been a big part of my life.

🏉 A bit about my sporting journey
I started playing rugby when I was six years old, before switching codes to rugby league at 15. I played my schoolboy grades for Pikiao, before stepping up to Premier footy at just 17.
🏫 My role at Sunset

I’m a Teacher Aide in Room 2. I’m still pretty new to education, having only been working in education and at Sunset for three months.

🧡 What I love about Sunset
What I love most about Sunset is how close we are as a school and community. There’s a real sense of whānau, and I love being part of that.

🎣 Outside of school
Outside of school, I love going fishing and being outdoors. My two footy teams are the Penrith Panthers and PIKIAO Warriors. 🏉

✨ What I want for our tamariki
What I want most for our tamariki is to see everyone happy, having fun, and giving things a go — whether that’s in the classroom or on the sports field. 🧡🖤

Whānau Morning in Room 4 ❤️

We had a lovely morning in Room 4 for our Whānau Day! A massive thank you to Tikirena’s mum, Whaea Sally, for coming in and making us yummy pancakes for breakfast. We really appreciate her support! 🥞❤️

Although we only had a couple of whānau able to join us, we still had a great morning together. The children enjoyed showing off some of their learning, making clay volcanoes and painting rocks. 🌋🎨

🎄✨ RAVE CHRISTMAS PARADE PREP! ✨🎄

Our awesome student leaders headed back to RAVE today to continue their work on the Christmas Parade decorations! 🎨🎅

Such a cool experience for our tamariki to get involved, get creative, and play a part in preparing for one of Rotorua’s special community events.

We can’t wait to see all their hard work come together when parade day rolls around! 🎄👏
