Koutu Playcentre Koutu Playcentre is a warm, parent-led space for tamariki aged 0–6.

We offer a supportive environment where children learn through play, grow in confidence, spark imagination, and build meaningful connections with whānau. Koutu Playcentre offers a friendly and positive environment for children aged 0-6 and their families and whānau. Children are encouraged to explore and learn new skills through having the freedom to choose from a range of activities including dress up, painting, carpentry, crafts, water and sand play. Our large outside play area also provides lots of opportunity for adventure and imaginative play. We incorporate Te Reo Māori into our children’s learning through waiata and other activities. We would love for you to join our community, please feel free to visit one of our sessions or phone to enquire.

Honestly, I’m not really sure what is going on in this one but that is the beauty of play. Those playing know exactly what they are doing, even if it just looks like chaos on the outside.

One week to go for term 3! It has gone fast. We look forward to a fun-filled week ahead before we recharge over the break.

Nothing like a warm cup of soup on a cold day! At Koutu we decided to make "friendship soup" - each member brought 1 ingredient from home to add to produce harvested by the kids from our Playcentre garden.
Toss it all in a pot with some water and we soon had plenty of soup for both adults and kids to enjoy

Koutu kids love to read!

That’s why we are so excited for New Zealand Children’s Book week and Playcentre Open Week next week.

On Monday we will be participating in the national read along, on Tuesday local author and doctor Callum Gilmour will be joining us, and on Friday we will be visiting Rotorua Library.

Our tamariki see a helicopter, a train, rockets and binoculars!

Junk construction has been very popular lately. Our creative kids make all sorts of wonderful items with would-be waste. There is no limit to their imaginations 😄
