Hillary Outdoor Camp
22 of our Year 10 students recently returned from a week-long adventure at the Hillary Outdoor Camp in Tongariro National Park. Students paddled in canoes, tackled high ropes, navigated caves, camped, learnt self-arrest techniques on the alpine slopes, and much more. Students gained skills in teamwork, resilience, and leadership, both through their adventures and the competitive table tennis matches back at camp!
The hard work paid off with incredible views, including a stunning sunset stretching all the way to Mt Taranaki, and an awesome finish with a well-earned swim! Towards the end, the energy was absolute magic. Students came home buzzing with newfound friends and memories.
A massive thank you to the fantastic Hillary Outdoor team, and to all the teachers and whānau who helped get our students involved. You made this incredible trip possible!

On Friday, the Level 1 and 3 Geography classes headed out for a day of exploring our local tourism destinations here in Rotorua. This trip supports students with their upcoming assessments of the impacts of tourism on Rotorua’s environment, economy, and society.
The classes started at The Agrodome, watching the sheep show (some even milking a cow) and getting first-hand insight into the operations of the business, thanks to Nicole, a friendly member of staff. They then headed to Skyline for a chat about the processes of the company from Daniel, before racing down the luge and taking in the views. Classes then finished at Te Puia, where the guide showed them around, told stories of the local area, and even spotted some Kiwi.
Few school subjects get you out and about as often as geography. You get hands-on experience analysing spaces and places and get to hang out with all sorts of fantastic people. Students are tackling genuine global challenges, like designing sustainable cities, managing tourism, and finding ways to mitigate environmental challenges. Choose Geography next year to join in on the fun!
