Sometimes the richest learning begins with something as simple as a handful of food scraps and a community of hardworking worms. 🌱🪱💚

Our children take great pride in caring for our worm farm, collecting food scraps and feeding our busy worms. Through this simple, purposeful task, they discover how nature transforms waste into rich compost that helps our gardens thrive.

By caring for living things and participating in the natural cycle of growth and renewal, children develop responsibility, patience, and a deep respect for the environment. These everyday moments foster curiosity, wonder, and an understanding that even the smallest creatures play an important role in caring for our world. 🌱💚

While we didn’t take home the ECC Exceptional Community Based Centre Award this year, we still came away from the evening feeling incredibly proud. 💛

Being shortlisted alongside such wonderful community-based centres was an honour in itself, and we are so grateful to the Early Childhood Council for recognising the mahi we put into our little corner of the world.

And while we may not have won, Rotorua did! 🌿✨

A huge congratulations to Lake Okareka Preschool on taking home the Exceptional Community Based Centre Award! 🏆 What a wonderful achievement and something for our Rotorua early childhood community to celebrate.

There is something pretty special about seeing another local centre recognised for the heart, dedication and commitment they pour into their tamariki, whānau and community. Your success is something we can all be proud of. ❤️

So tonight we celebrate not just our own journey, but the incredible early childhood community we are part of in Rotorua.

This recognition celebrates the heart of our kindergarten, our wonderful tamariki, dedicated teaching team, supportive whānau, and the wider community who make Pathways Steiner Kindergarten such a special place to learn and grow.

We are truly grateful to the Early Childhood Council for this acknowledgement and are proud to stand alongside so many inspiring community-based centres. 🌿

When you step through the gate of our kindergarten, it often feels less like arriving at an early childhood centre and more like cousins gathering at their aunty's house. The children know one another deeply. They play, create, negotiate, laugh, comfort, and grow alongside each other, forming relationships that feel very much like an extended whānau.

Our kaiako become the trusted aunties of this special place. We are there to offer guidance, share stories, provide comfort when needed, and celebrate each child's unique gifts. The rhythm of our days is woven together through shared experiences, familiar routines, and genuine care.

In a world that can often feel busy and hurried, there is something precious about children growing up surrounded by a community where everyone belongs. Older children naturally look after younger ones, friendships flourish across ages, and each child knows they are seen, valued, and welcomed.

It is this sense of family, of cousins gathered together under the watchful care of their aunties, that gives our kindergarten its warmth, heart, and magic 💞

There is something quietly extraordinary about watching a 5 year old learn cross stitch 🪡
Strengthening fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and patience - it also offers something less measurable and equally important: a sense of calm pride. Each tiny stitch becomes part of a bigger picture, showing children that beautiful things take time to create. In a world that moves so quickly, this work asks tamariki to slow down, focus, persevere and trust the process - thread by thread 🧵

A heartfelt thank you to Bekah and her wonderful team at Willowsong Tairawhiti for welcoming us so warmly during our impromptu visit. There’s something truly special about stepping into a space where the rhythm, care, and intention feel so familiar 💫

Connecting with like-minded kaiako is always nourishing — sharing stories, ideas, and inspiration that quietly reaffirm why we do what we do. These moments of whakawhanaungatanga remind us that we are part of a wider community, all tending to the same garden in our own beautiful ways🌱

We left feeling uplifted, inspired, and deeply grateful. Thank you for opening your doors and your hearts to us 🤍
