Today the Eco Warriors were visited by Whaea Meghan from the council. We sorted out different types of rubbish and learnt about how long it takes for different things to break down. Food and cardboard take 3-4 months to break down. Corn cans and coke cans take 50-200 years to break down. Plastic takes a lot longer than 500 years to break down. For things that we use for only a few minutes, are around for a lot longer!
We can also care for our environment by using our recycling bin, the new green food waste bins and the school worm farms. Challenge: can you sort the rubbish at your house and if you have anything the worms like to eat please bring them in to our school worm farms.

Thankyou Whaea Meghan for your time and knowledge!

Good morning, Glenholme School!!!

Tomorrow is the Wednesday Challenge. The weather might be cold, but the sun is shining 🌞 and the day will be beautiful. You know what to do.

Get to school on your bike 🚴, on foot 🚶, on a scooter 🛴, share a ride 🚌 with another family, or get dropped off at one of the very close Park and Stride Zones.

Earn points for the school, your whānau group and your class!!! 🏆🏅🏫

Let's get active 😎, everyone, and leave the cars 😊 behind tomorrow.

Looking forward to seeing the different human-powered ways you arrive tomorrow. 🤸

Yesterday we had Whaea Georgie from the council and Constable Viv and Constable Mathew come in to help the juniors in Pukehangi Team learn road safety.

We learnt how to safely cross the road using a pedestrian crossing, courtesy crossing, and no crossing.

We also practiced walking the footpath checking for sneaky driveways - ask your child what that means.

They were super impressed with our knowledge and understanding of road safety, and our beautiful manners and respect.
