Today we enjoyed two excellent speeches and a theme that was both deep and powerful. The power of safe spaces - where do you go to feel safe? Arsh put this question to us, then offered some answers - to the beach, to the forest, to your best friend or just time by yourself enjoying some self care.
Kolin had an emotional speech about a female bird's reaction to the death of its partner, spending five days waiting.....for what? She equated it to love shown by other creatures including us.
Aileen took us back to her teenage years when she asked the ouija board to advise her future. Not following what the board suggested, she believes she has made her own destiny and is happier for it.
Yes, subjects for speeches are up to the individual. Come along and see what else happens at our Lake City Breakfast Toastmasters Club . We meet Wednesdays at 7am at The Library Meeting Room in Haupapa Street Rotorua.

With the interesting theme of May, this gathering of keen minded peers talked about autumnal may days, maypoles, and 27 May being World Otter Day and Nigeria's Children's Day. We had an informative speech from George, who is based in Nigeria, telling us about his culture, the bright colours of the clothing, the beads, the dances, the food, their spirituality, and he sang a song. Kingi replied with the beautiful waiata - Te Aroha. Sue had us in stitches telling us of her younger days visiting her uncle's farm, falling off horses, squishing 10 kids into the Kingswood for a beach trip.
Lake City Breakfast Toastmasters Club - it's a great way to start your Wednesday. 7am at the Library Meeting Room in Haupapa Street. Come along and see what it's all about. We are a hybrid club so you can even join us from home if the idea of getting out of bed that early is too much!

At City Breakfast Toastmasters Club, part of the fun is having a "theme" for our meetings, where we get to learn new things and approach public speaking in new ways.

Last week our theme was Animals, and we discovered some fascinating things — octopi can squeeze through incredibly tiny holes, koalas have four thumbs, and kangaroos can pack quite a punch! 🐙🐨🦘

This also led to a heartfelt speech by Kolin, who shared life lessons from animals that had been in her life.

We also celebrated several member birthdays, and exciting Area Contest wins from two of our own — proof that growth and courage truly pay off.

This coming Wednesday at 7:00 AM, we’re turning the page to a new theme: Fairytales. 🏰✨

Because in many ways, personal development is its own kind of fairytale journey — ordinary people stepping up, finding their voice, and discovering strengths they didn’t know they had.

If you’re interested in building confidence and improving your communication skills alongside supportive people, we’d love to welcome you as our guest.

Whether you're in Rotorua or elsewhere, just message us here and we'll get you sorted.

It may be the start of the next chapter of YOUR story.
