🌿 Proud of our Rumaki ākonga and kaiako! 🌿

We are so unbelievably proud of our Rumaki ākonga and kaiako for all the mahi they have put in over the past few weeks to create this incredible uwhi.

We have witnessed some beautiful examples of tuakana teina in action, with ākonga from Ōwhata and Rotokawa working alongside our Rumaki ākonga, sharing knowledge, skills and expertise. It has also been fantastic to see our ākonga confidently sharing their knowledge with other kaiako and ākonga from across the school as they popped into the room to join in.

This mahi is about so much more than creating an uwhi. It is about connection, manaakitanga, sharing mātauranga and taking action to care for our taonga.

We hope this uwhi will go a little way towards helping our lake find its way back to health and removing some of the unwanted foreign lakeweed. 💚🌿

A huge thank you to Whaea Tiare, Whaea Lisa and Whaea Hotu for their organisation of this fantastic experience.

He waka eke noa – we are all in this together.
Ka mau te wehi, Rumaki! 👏🏽

I am married to Te Aroha. We have two children, Kihiroa & Aritaarita of Ngati Kuri, Ngati Whatua, Tainui & Te Arawa descent.

I am the current principal of Whangamarino School in Rotorua but I have been appointed as the new principal for Mokoia Intermediate School. I have a ‘passion’ for teaching, learning & education. I will do my best to support, encourage and be a voice for our Mokoia Community.

I believe we should strive to do our personal best to achieve the highest possible standards of learning in all endeavours that life has to offer. I have been a very successful principal and teacher during my teaching career for the past 25 years, 13 years as a principal. New Principal

The Board of Trustees has been working on the appointment of our new Principal. The appointment process included a range of steps including consultation with stakeholder groups, applicant’s self-assessment, referees’ reports, phone referencing, visits by the committee to meet applicants in their current place of employment, presentation by short-listed applicants, and a formal interview.

We would like to acknowledge and thank all members of our school community who took the opportunity to have input into this process. The Board considered a range of information in making its decision to appoint.

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Matua Rawiri Wihapi as our new Principal. Rawiri will join Mokoia Intermediate ready to begin Term One next year.

Rawiri is an experienced Principal and joins us from Whangamarino School. We look forward to welcoming Rawiri and his whanau to Mokoia Intermediate with a full Powhiri on 30 January 2018, the first day of Term 1.
