Rotorua Lakes Council PROPOSE TO CUT ALL SKATEPARK FUNDING.
I wish I was joking, but today the Rotorua Lakes Council released their annual plan for consultation, in it they are proposing to cancel any contribution towards a new skatepark.
This has taken us by surprise, we have been working with the Council for almost ten years on an upgrade, we had over $1 million in funding secured, designs had been drafted, preload had taken place, we have jumped through every hoop and worked with Council for a long time - this is an absolute slap in the face to members of our community who have been loudly in support of an upgrade.
We will be coordinating a response to try and get the Mayor and Councillors to change their mind and to continue to fund what we all know is a much needed project for our city.
I will share more in the coming days, but for now, what you can do is two things.
1. Go on the Council website and complete the survey, saying you do not support the deferment of the Kuirau Park Skatepark: https://letstalk.rotorualakescouncil.nz/te-kaunihera-o-nga-roto-o-rotorua-mahere-a-tau-2023-rotorua-lakes-council-annual-plan-consultation-2023
2. Tell all your friends and whanau to do the same.
Watch this page as we will be sharing more info about how we plan to raise awareness of this terrible proposal from Rotorua Lakes Council

Hola Team!
Im Bastian from Chile, South America to Rotorua π¨π±π³πΏ
I have been skating for over 20 years, mainly street.
I used to have a skate school in my country that I had every Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays! We had three levels at our school; beginner: they learnt basic balance and comfort on their skate board, intermediate: transition stage and advanced: learning tricks.
I hope to bring all my knowledge, experience and love for skate my new students!
Canβt wait to meet you all and start the new, New Zealand journey βπ½πΉ
Today we introduced mattresses to the kids to build confidence with our bigger challenges, placing them at the bottom of drops or stairs and slow pushing them further away with each attempt π was so close to his board slide and 4 stair Ollie today and then Miss Tiana fully landed her first stair set completely by herself πππ Congrats on the new learn, weβll be smashing out heaps of new tricks this way π LETSGOOOO!
