There’s beauty in mistakes. 💛

Today, while building the word white, we first made wite.

And you know what? That mistake made perfect sense.

The sounds were heard, the long vowel pattern was recognised, and the word looked right. Rather than simply correcting it, we stopped and explored what was missing, the ‘wh’ at the beginning.

✨ Mistakes give us clues.

They show us what a learner already understands and, more importantly, what we need to teach next.

In tutoring, getting something wrong isn’t a failure. Sometimes it creates the perfect teaching moment. 🌱

Why is English so tricky to learn? 🤔📚

Even when English is a child’s first language, there are so many patterns and rules to learn!

Take short and long vowels 👆
mat → mate
cap → cape

One little letter changes the vowel sound AND the whole word!

At the same time, children are learning to read, spell, write, use grammar and understand what they read. That’s a lot to master!

Teachers do an amazing job, but in a busy classroom, there isn’t always time to work 1:1 on the little gaps that can hold a child back.

🌱 That’s where tutoring can help.

We can slow down, identify exactly what your child needs, explicitly teach it and practise it at their pace, helping build both their skills and their confidence.

Small skills can make a BIG difference to reading, spelling and confidence. 💛

💜 Sometimes children don’t need more practice, they need a different way to see the learning. 💜

During yesterday’s session, we used maths manipulatives to explore times tables. Instead of memorising facts, we focused on understanding the patterns behind them.

Hands-on materials help make abstract ideas concrete, giving children the opportunity to build confidence and develop a deeper understanding.

That’s one of the many reasons I love 1:1 and small-group tutoring; we can slow down, adapt the learning, and teach in a way that works for each child.

Every learner deserves the chance to understand, not just memorise. 🌿

✨ Hi, I’m Brooke!

I’m a registered New Zealand primary teacher with a Bachelor of Teaching (Primary) and the creator of Kiwi’s Curiosity Cove 🍃🌊

I started Kiwi’s Curiosity Cove because I wanted to create a place where children feel safe to ask questions, make mistakes and grow in confidence. Every child learns differently. I believe they deserve teaching that meets them where they’re at, not where they’re expected to be.

My passion is helping children who have lost confidence, need a little extra support or simply learn best with a personalised approach. I provide one-on-one tutoring in all areas using evidence-informed teaching and ongoing assessment to tailor each session to the individual child.

As both a teacher and a mum, I understand how important it is for children to feel supported, encouraged, and celebrated. I love working alongside families to help children build not only their academic skills but also their belief in themselves.

For me, success isn’t just about improving grades, it’s about seeing a child walk into a session feeling unsure and leave believing, “I can do this.” Those moments are why I love what I do.

Thank you for being here and supporting Kiwi’s Curiosity Cove. I can’t wait to be part of many more learning journeys. 💛

Have you noticed your child saying things like “I’m just bad at maths” or “I can’t do it”? You’re not alone, and it doesn’t have to stay that way.

Every child deserves to believe they’re capable.

That’s exactly what I aim to build at Kiwi’s Curiosity Cove: one session, one breakthrough and one smile at a time.

Today, one of my students said something that made my day.

💬 “I like that you revisit the question I got wrong last week. That doesn’t normally happen.”

It reminded me why I intentionally revisit previous learning in every tutoring session.

Children don’t learn something by seeing it once. They learn by revisiting, practising, and strengthening those skills over time. That’s how confidence grows and learning sticks.

Swipe through to see why revisiting learning is one of the most powerful ways to help children succeed. 💚
