Recently we spent some time learning about Samoan language and culture for Samoan Language Week.
Mafa brought along some treasures from home - lavalava and various fabrics of Samoan pattern.
Jeremiah, Makai, and Summer also shared their knowledge and experiences with the class.
Thank you to these wonderful students for stepping up and leading this learning experience.

This term the Te Wana children are digging deep into the world of Poetry! We are working to develop oral language skills in the areas of presenting to others and active listening.
Our goal is to orally present one of our class poems to the group at the end of this term.
We are learning to…
Use facial expressions and gestures that support meaning
Speak with appropriate, audible volume so we are heard
Experiment with pace and rhythm.
The audience will practice active listening. This involves giving full attention to a speaker, including their verbal and nonverbal cues, to understand their message.

On Friday 24th April, TW children made ANZAC biscuits. We read a story about Rachel and her mum making them and sending them to her father, who was a solider.
We talked about how some people choose to do really hard things, not for themselves but to help other people - isn’t it great how ANZAC day comes not long after Easter so we are again reminded about the hard thing Jesus did on our behalf?!
Some children even made these biscuits at home with their families over the long weekend.

Our cross country event was an amazing display of excellence. At RCS we talk about excellence as:
“we are growing to be who God created us to be.”
Keywords in our excellence rubric are: grit, perseverance, personal best and having a growth mindset.
Ka rawe koutou!
Excellent attitudes everyone!
