For more than 50 years this voluntary organisation has met the changing needs of families and t

We had a great combined excursion with Lincoln Playcentre yesterday at the Mini Gym at the Sports Centre!

Tamariki were able to practice climbing, balancing, fine motor skills and shooting hoops, while also expanding on social skills and turn taking.

We look forward to more combined excursions in the future! šŸ’›

Why do we let tamariki use real tools?

Because we trust them to be capable learners! With close supervision and support, using real tools helps tamariki develop confidence, coordination, concentration, and problem-solving skills. They learn how to assess and manage risk, follow safety guidelines, and persevere when things don’t go to plan. Plus, there’s nothing quite like the sense of pride they feel when they’ve built something with their own hands.

It’s amazing to see what tamariki can achieve when given real opportunities and trusted with real responsibilities.

At Playcentre, invitations to play don't always look the same. Some children eagerly join group activities, while others prefer to observe before participating in their own time.

An invitation to play is simply an opportunity – not an expectation. It can be a thoughtfully set-up activity, a pile of leaves waiting to be jumped in, a conversation with a friend, or a quiet moment exploring something independently.

No matter the weather, no matter the age group… if there’s a pile of leaves at Playcentre, someone’s launching themselves into it like it’s an Olympic sport šŸ‚šŸ˜‚
Toddlers, siblings, parents — nobody is safe once the leaf zoomies begin.
Fresh air, big laughs, messy clothes and pockets mysteriously full of leaves… just another perfect Playcentre day.

Playcentre: where the learning is hands-on and the washing pile proves it.

When science meets preschoolers, something pretty special happens ✨

You get wide eyes, fascinated faces, and curious little minds buzzing with questions.
At Playcentre, it’s not about perfect experiments or right answers, it’s about the wonder in the ā€œwhy?ā€, the excitement in the ā€œwhat if?ā€, and the joy of discovering something new together.
Because sometimes the smallest scientists make the biggest discoveries šŸ’”

Learning through movement and culture ✨

Our kaiako have been showing tamariki how to use poi, building coordination, rhythm, and confidence along the way. So special to see them giving it a go, supporting each other, and having fun while connecting with this beautiful taonga šŸ’›
