Today Ngā Navigators were engaged in a hands-on learning experience using loose parts and frames. The tamariki enjoyed carefully placing the colourful gems into the frames, creating their own patterns and designs. There was lots of excitement as they noticed the different shapes and colours within the tray and searched for gems that matched.
As the tamariki explored, we talked together about the different shapes they could see and what they might create with them. Some children began using their imagination to make animals, such as ducks and rabbits, from the gems. This encouraged them to think creatively about how individual shapes could be arranged and combined to represent something familiar.

A little baking with our Explorers this morning!

Our small group helped make carrot muffins, cracking eggs, grating carrots, adding oats and cinnamon and taking turns mixing it all together.

Lots of little hands getting stuck in, exploring the ingredients and discovering what happens when we put them all together. And of course, the best part was enjoying our yummy muffins for morning kai!

Today Ngā Navigators had the pleasure of heading out into our Riverton community to help deliver Meals on Wheels. This was a wonderful opportunity for our tamariki to connect with people in our local community and experience the important role we can all play in caring for and supporting others.
The tamariki were very excited to take turns delivering the meals to our clients. They enjoyed carrying the meals, approaching each person and proudly handing them over. It was lovely to see the smiles and happy greetings exchanged between the tamariki and the people receiving their meals. The clients were delighted to have the children delivering their meals, and the tamariki could see the positive impact their small contribution had on others.
Being out and about in Riverton also gave our tamariki the opportunity to recognise familiar places and people within their community. Experiences such as this help children to understand that they are valued members of their community and that they can contribute in meaningful ways.

Mōrena e te whānau. What a slime-tastic experience ngā Adventurer’s are having today! With cold and weather happening outside, we are exploring a colourful, squishy tray of slime filled with little Ooshies, using our hands to squeeze, stretch, scoop and search for the hidden treasures. As we play, we are sharing lots of conversations about the Ooshies we discovered, naming the different characters and colours and the ones we have at home. We are talking about how the slime feels—“It’s sticky!”, “It’s gooey!” and “It’s soft”—and noticing that it feels cool and cold on our hands. This sensory experience encourages ngā Adventurer’s to use their senses, explore cause and effect, develop descriptive language and confidently share their ideas with others.

🎨✨ Bubble Wrap Creativity! 🫧🖌️

Kia ora. Today ngā tamariki explored a fun and creative way of painting using bubble wrap! They experimented with colours, patterns and different ways of making marks as they pressed and painted across the bubble wrap. There was lots of curiosity, creativity and excitement as the tamariki discovered how the bubbles could create interesting textures and prints. 🌈🎨
A wonderful sensory experience that encouraged our tamariki to explore, experiment and express their ideas through art and play! 💜🧡💚💙

Today, the Navigators have been enjoying some hands-on learning experiences through our Tuatara puzzle and balloon painting! While working on the Tuatara puzzle, tamariki explored how the pieces fit together, using problem-solving, concentration, persistence and spatial awareness. They experimented with different pieces, shared ideas and supported one another as they worked towards completing the puzzle. With our balloon painting experience, tamariki explored colour, texture, movement and cause and effect. They experimented with how the paint moved and changed as they used the balloons, developing their creativity, coordination and confidence to try something new. These experiences connect with Te Whāriki strand Exploration, where tamariki learn through active exploration, experimentation and discovery. They are developing working theories about how things work, making connections, taking risks and building confidence as capable and curious learners. Ka pai my e-hoa great mahi
