Earlier in the week we spent the morning playing in the leaves at Washbourn Gardens and found two beautiful painted rocks hidden in the tree’s. On the back, was a message “Keep or Rehide, and Post at Nelson Rocks, NZ - Rock Art”

There I found an amazing group of artists who paint on rocks and hide them around our community for people to find.

So of course the children wanted to paint and hide rocks too!

We have hidden some special Nurture at Home with B rocks around Isel Park this morning, and a couple at the Hope Community Church too.

Happy Rock Hunting!

An impromptu Pizza Party at B’s this morning!

Today the girls created homemade pizzas for lunch. Using wraps as their base, they carefully spread pizza sauce, chose their toppings, and finished them off with a sprinkle of cheese.

This fun cooking experience is about so much more than making lunch. The children are developing:

* Independence and confidence in making their own choices

* Fine motor skills through spreading, sprinkling, and assembling

* Language and social skills through conversation and shared experiences

* Early maths concepts while talking about quantities, sizes, and sequencing

With just a little gentle guidance, the girls took the lead and were so proud of what they created, and especially enjoyed eating them at the end!

Experiences like these help children build practical life skills while learning through play in a meaningful and enjoyable way.

I managed to pick up these awesome Chalk Balls from Spotlight this week and they’ve been a hit!

I like them because they encourage children to use a three point grasp when drawing rather than a fist. This is excellent for early writing progression and builds up their hand muscles for later fine motor control.

Genna is incredibly knowledgeable and nurturing. She has been called “the baby whisperer” time and time again as she has supported families in transitioning their children into childcare and through developmental stages. There’s no better person to have in your corner when navigating those important early years.

Genna so naturally becomes in tune with children, and forms the most beautiful relationships with them and their whānau. Her knowledge of child development is extensive and her home is perfectly set up to provide a safe and engaging environment to learn and grow.

Anyone who secures a space in Genna’s Home Based Childcare will be very lucky!

A simple one, Flour, scoops and stirrers at the Tuff Tray.

This has kept these guys busy and engaged in play all morning, such a simple activity which some might see as just making a mess.

I see children developing maths concepts (measuring, counting, volume) strengthening their fine motor skills and hand eye co-ordination, I see imaginitive play, co-operation skills and emotional regulation all while yes, making a mess!

The power of play.
