Notice of RSS Parent Teacher Association Annual General Meeting

The RSS PTA AGM will be held in the Staff Room at 6:30pm on Tuesday 2nd of May 2023 and all staff, parents and caregivers are invited to attend.

We’ll be looking to confirm the positions of Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer and Communications Officer as well non-officeholding committee members.

Through the challenges of the last couple of years the PTA, with the community’s support, have been able to provide funding towards the Nature School, the Sensory Garden, football goals, school camps, art supplies, and the end-of-year Formal to name a few.

We’re excited to be able to ramp up events and fundraising activities again this year and focus is turning to the School Gala which we hope to confirm soon.

If you’re keen to help organise fundraising activities and events, and can be available for as little as an hour a month we’d love to have you on board. The more active members we have the more activities and events we can deliver to benefit our children and the school.

Please RSVP to the school office by Friday 28 April 3pm so we can ensure there are enough drinks and nibbles for all.

Please note, following the AGM we will have our usual monthly meeting to go through current fundraising ideas, activities and priorities.

Kind regards
PTA Team

It is Kapiti Playhouse’s 75th Birthday and to celebrate they are putting on a show that showcases all that the local theatre has to offer! Including students from Raumati South School, both past and present.

75: A Celebration will provide much entertainment for all age groups. Bring the family for a great night out!

Eight shows that include music, dance, drama and more. It is local talent at its best.

Welcome back to term two. It is lovely to see all of our students back at school and ready for another term of learning.

I’m sure most of you have heard about the fire we had here at school last Saturday evening. The police are investigating strong leads of inquiry and are investigating the incident as arson. We were extremely lucky the fire did not spread to rooms 1- 4 as the fire brigade informed me it was minutes away from doing so. The damage is significant in terms of the amount of learning resources we lost. The current estimate for contents loss is closing in on $30,000. The repair work, making the site safe and man hours cost is edging towards $80,000. The most devastating aspect of this is that the junior team had a huge amount of resources, dress ups, maths games/equipment, furniture, toys and handmade learning resources lost in the fire. I am sad that there are young people in our community that are committing these dangerous acts and I hope they receive the support they need.

PTA

The PTA held their monthly meeting on Tuesday May 3. It was the first time this year, due to COVID, that the meeting was held in person, on the school grounds, and everyone was really happy to be back at the school.

The PTA’s mission is to enhance the educational, environmental and social experiences of our students, staff, whanau and community. We aim to do this by focusing on purposeful fundraising and events to:

improve access to resources
enhance the school environment
promote social interactions
This term we will be supporting the curriculum evening on May 26 with a free sausage sizzle, and we hope to see lots of you there! The PTA is a fun way to get involved and support our wonderful school, and we would always welcome anyone who wants to come along to a meeting. Meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month – keep an eye out for more details.

School Donations

Thank you to those of you who have paid our school donations and I politely ask that if you are in a position to pay our donations please do so via the school shop. At the beginning of the year we ask parents for donations to help us operate our school. These donations are used for initiatives that we believe benefit all students. If you are able to pay the donation we would be really grateful. Donations are $120 for one child or $150 for two or more children. You can claim 33.33 cents for every dollar donated to approved charities and organisations. For details please go to https://www.ird.govt.nz/topics/income-tax/tax-credits/tax-credits-for-donations We receive funding from the Ministry of Education to operate the school and deliver the curriculum but sadly schools are underfunded. We want to deliver a curriculum that enables all students to reach their full potential and donations help this happen. This year we will use donations towards new library books, literacy resources and sporting equipment. I would appreciate it if you are able to contribute. You are able to pay donations via the school shop on the Raumati South School website: www.raumatisouth.school.nz / School Shop / Donations 2022

Community Evening - Thursday 26 May

On Thursday 26 May we are having an evening event to thank you for your cooperation and support as well as show you how our new local curriculum works. This event will take place on Thursday, 26 May at 5:30pm and there will be a postponement date on Thursday 2 June if the weather is terrible. There will be a free sausage sizzle to thank you all for helping us out during the outbreak, classrooms will be open for you to wander through and see what your children have been learning. We will have activities for you to participate in to help show you our new local curriculum. We will then finish the evening with a “Wheel of Fortune” and the chance to win prizes. Please RSVP to Julie Farrelly on [email protected].
