🍂 Our Tamariki Creations & Voices✨

Our tamariki have been busy exploring creativity through art this week, using googly eyes, autumn leaves,and their own drawings to create unique masterpieces 🎨

As part of this, one of our lovely kaiako asked:
“Ko wai koe? – Who are you? What do you think is special about you?”

Each child’s whakaaro was then carefully written onto their artwork, making every piece even more meaningful and personal 💛

These creations are not just art — they are a celebration of identity, voice, and the special qualities that make each of our tamariki who they are 🌟

What is kōanga? New Zealand’s incredible springtime transformation | Trees That Count

Is there anything that says spring like a cheerful tūī flitting about newly bloomed kowhai? In New Zealand, spring starts in September and ends in November. Also known as 'Kōanga' in te reo Māori, it's a time of renewal and transformation - and it’s a great time to explore our native nature.

🌊 Te Waka o Tapuika Hikoi 🌿

This week a group of our tamariki went on a special hikoi to visit Te Waka o Tapuika, which is being carved just up the road from our puna. It was an awe-inspiring experience—rich in kōrero, connection, and culture.

When they returned, the stories flowed! Tamariki eagerly shared what they saw and heard with their kaiako and peers. The experience naturally wove into their play—pretending to paddle a waka, journeying together, and retelling the visit through imaginative storytelling. 🛶✨

We’ll be heading back for more visits to see the progression of the waka and deepen our understanding of its significance.

These moments embody the heart of Te Whāriki—where learning is holistic, experiential, and grounded in te ao Māori.

He taonga te mokopuna, kia whāngaia, kia tipu, kia rea 🌱
A child is a treasure, to be nurtured, to grow, to flourish.

🌀 Cloud Dough & Kōrero about seasons ❄️🌱

This week our tamariki explored cloud dough—a soft, sensory material that invited curious hands and thoughtful minds. As they mixed, moulded, and played, rich kōrero emerged about winter, snow, and the hail storm that surprised us earlier in the week! 🌨️💬

We talked about the changing taiao—how the cold is slowly giving way to signs of kōanga (spring). Tamariki noticed buds on trees, warmer sunshine, and the shift in the air. Their observations show a deepening connection to the rhythms of nature and the world around them. 🌿🌞

🌊✨ Nau mai, haere mai Awhi te taniwha! ✨🌊
Welcome Awhi the taniwha! Each weekend, Awhi will be heading home with a tamaiti to spend time with their whānau. Together, they explore, play, and create special memories. When Awhi returns, we share those adventures in our pukapuka, filled with stories, drawings, and photos that celebrate each child’s unique experience.

This kaupapa beautifully reflects the strands of Te Whāriki:

- Mana Whenua – Belonging: Tamariki feel a strong sense of belonging as their home life is valued and shared.
- Mana Reo – Communication: Storytelling and conversations with Awhi help grow oral language skills, including te reo Māori.
- Mana Tangata – Contribution: Every child’s voice and experience contributes to our collective learning.
- Mana Aotūroa – Exploration: Adventures with Awhi spark curiosity, creativity, and discovery.
- Mana Atua – Wellbeing: Tamariki feel safe, loved, and supported through whānau engagement.
