About Jean Barr, MBA
Sales Strategist | Leadership Coach | Keynote Speaker | Business Advisor | Founder of Top Achievers Sales Training Ltd.

For more than 30 years, I have been passionate about helping people unlock their potential, increase sales, develop exceptional leaders, and build high-performing teams.

My career began in sales, where I consistently ranked among the top performers for several multinational organisations. I was privileged to receive world-class sales training, coaching and mentoring throughout my career, experiences that shaped not only my success but also my belief that great training changes lives.

While I loved the challenge of sales, I became increasingly frustrated watching talented sales professionals struggle because they simply weren't given the tools, coaching or development they deserved. Companies recruited great people, promised training, and then failed to deliver. Good salespeople became average, average salespeople left the industry, and businesses missed enormous opportunities for growth.

After experiencing this time and time again, I knew I could make a difference.

Nineteen years ago, I founded Top Achievers Sales Training Ltd. with one clear purpose:

To provide practical, results-driven sales and leadership training that people can immediately apply in the real world.

That purpose continues to drive everything I do today.

Real Experience. Real Results.

Unlike many trainers who teach theory alone, everything I deliver has been tested and proven in real businesses.

Throughout my career I have:

• Built successful sales teams and developed high-performing sales cultures.

• Increased sales performance and profitability for organisations through practical sales strategies and leadership development.

• Worked with businesses across multiple industries throughout New Zealand and internationally.

• Helped sales professionals build confidence, improve conversion rates and consistently exceed expectations.

• Coached emerging and experienced leaders to communicate more effectively, lead with confidence and develop successful teams.

My philosophy is simple:

People don't need more information. They need practical skills they can implement immediately.

Every workshop is designed so participants leave with actionable strategies they can use the very next day.

Qualifications

My commitment to lifelong learning has always been important to me. I believe that great trainers never stop learning.

My qualifications include:

• Master of Business Administration (MBA)

• Diploma in Business Management

• Diploma in Sales

• Diploma in Marketing

• Diploma in Adult Education

Combined with more than three decades of practical sales and leadership experience, these qualifications allow me to bridge the gap between proven business theory and real-world application.

Award-Winning Excellence

I am incredibly proud that Top Achievers Sales Training has been recognised nationally and internationally for excellence in sales capability development.

Awards include:

• Best Sales Trainer – 2024

• Sales Training CEO of the Year – New Zealand

• Best Sales Training Services (South Island)

• Sales Training Provider of the Year

• Leading Provider of Sales & Marketing Capability Consulting Services – New Zealand

While the awards are appreciated, the greatest reward comes from seeing clients increase their confidence, improve performance and achieve results they once thought were beyond their reach.

What Makes My Training Different?

Sales is about people.

Leadership is about people.

Business is about people.

Understanding how people think, communicate, make decisions and build trust is what creates outstanding results.

That is why I specialise in the Psychology of Sales and Leadership.

My programmes combine practical sales strategies with behavioural psychology, communication, emotional intelligence, coaching techniques and leadership capability to help individuals and teams perform at their highest level.

Every programme is tailored to your organisation.

There are no "off-the-shelf" workshops.

Your industry is different.

Your customers are different.

Your people are different.

Your training should be too.

ARE YOU THE TEAM LEADER — OR ARE YOU THE CHALLENGE IN YOUR OWN BUSINESS?

A tough question.

But sometimes, as business owners and leaders, we need to be prepared to ask ourselves the questions we may not want to hear.

Are you overwhelmed?

Stressed?

Stuck?

Wearing too many hats?

Trying to do everything yourself because you believe “no one can do it as well as I can”?

Are you struggling to delegate because it feels quicker or easier to just do it yourself?

And perhaps most importantly…

Are you willing to ask for help?

Because being a great leader doesn't mean you have all the answers.

It means having the self-awareness to recognise when you don't.

What are your blind spots?

Every leader has them.

Blind spots in:

• Yourself
• Your leadership
• Your team
• Your systems
• Your processes
• Your customer experience
• Your business strategy
• Your time management

Sometimes we are simply too close to the business to see what is really happening.

This is where a coach, mentor or trusted business advisor can make a significant difference.

Someone who isn't emotionally attached to the day-to-day operation.

Someone who will ask the questions you may not be asking yourself.

Someone who will challenge you when necessary.

Someone who can help you see what you can't see.

So, ask yourself:

What am I doing that is stopping my business from moving forward?

Am I:

❌ Holding onto tasks that should be delegated?

❌ Allowing outdated processes to continue because “that's the way we've always done it”?

❌ Avoiding difficult conversations?

❌ Failing to establish clear policies, procedures and accountability?

❌ Not investing in my people?

❌ Trying to be the expert in everything?

❌ Making decisions from overwhelm rather than strategy?

❌ Resistant to new ideas, technology or better ways of doing things?

❌ Working IN the business so much that I have no time to work ON the business?

Growth requires change.

And change requires an open mind.

HERE ARE 5 THINGS I WOULD CHALLENGE YOU TO DO TODAY:

1. Step back and look at your business objectively.
What is working? What isn't? What needs to change?

2. Identify what only YOU can do.
Everything else needs to be considered for delegation, automation or elimination.

3. Review your policies, procedures and structures.
Are they supporting growth — or creating bottlenecks?

4. Get clear on accountability.
Does everyone know what is expected of them, who is responsible for what, and how success is measured?

5. Get an outside perspective.
A coach, mentor or business advisor can often see the blind spots that you simply can't see from inside the business.

YOUR BUSINESS CAN'T OUTGROW YOUR LEADERSHIP.

If you want your business to grow, sometimes the first thing that needs to change is the leader.

Not because you're doing a bad job.

Because you've taken your business as far as your current way of working can take it.

The next level may require:

Different thinking.
Different structures.
Different processes.
Different delegation.
Different leadership.

And you don't have to figure it all out alone.

I would love to help you put the structures, policies, procedures, accountability and processes in place to streamline your business, support your team and give you the space to become the leader your business needs you to be.

The question isn't: “Can I do it all?”

The better question is:

“Why am I still trying to?”

Communicate Like a CEO – Not a Salesperson

The best sales professionals don't sound like salespeople.

They communicate like CEOs.

They lead conversations with authenticity, authority, honesty, integrity, and empathy.

They do their homework before every meeting. Not just reading a prospect's website or scrolling through social media, but digging deeper to understand the business, the market, the challenges, opportunities, competitors, and future direction.

When you do your homework properly, you ask a different class of questions.

Questions that make clients stop and think.

Questions that uncover opportunities.

Questions that demonstrate genuine interest in their business.

Questions such as:

• What's the biggest obstacle preventing your business from reaching the next level of growth?
• If you could fix one challenge tomorrow, what would it be?
• What keeps you awake at night?
• Where do you see the greatest opportunity for growth over the next 12 months?
• What is preventing your team from performing at their full potential?
• What would success look like if everything worked exactly as planned?

The most successful advisors listen with total focus.

They don't listen to respond.

They listen to understand.

They seek to understand the client, their business, their team, their customers, and the challenges they face every day.

Only then can they provide solutions that genuinely meet the client's needs.

The role of a modern sales professional is not to sell.

It is to become a trusted advisor.

A trusted advisor focuses on outcomes.

Helping clients:
✔ Grow their company
✔ Increase market share
✔ Attract and retain more customers
✔ Improve profitability
✔ Build stronger teams
✔ Reduce stress and sleepless nights
✔ Create alignment so everyone is pulling in the same direction

Every member of your team has a unique personality and communication style.

However, when everyone follows a proven sales and communication process, they can consistently focus on the activities that drive results, strengthen client relationships, and improve the bottom line.

Your team doesn't need to become someone else.

They simply need the skills, confidence, and framework to communicate at a higher level.

Want your team to communicate like trusted advisors rather than salespeople?

Let's have a conversation about how I can help your sales team, leadership team, and customer-facing staff communicate more effectively, build stronger client relationships, and achieve better business outcomes.

PROSPECTING & DISCOVERY QUESTION BLUEPRINT
Gain Clarity. Build Confidence. Create Better Sales Conversations.

Cold calling and initial client appointments don’t need to be intimidating.

The key is having a process and knowing the questions you need to ask.

You don't need to do all the talking.
You need to listen, understand, clarify and uncover the opportunity.

1. START THE CONVERSATION

Your objective: Build rapport and establish why you are calling.

Have I caught you at an okay time?
What is your role within the business?
Tell me a little about your business and what you do.
What are your key responsibilities?
What are the main areas you are focused on at the moment?
2. UNDERSTAND THEIR BUSINESS

Your objective: Understand their world before talking about your solution.

What are your key priorities for the next 6–12 months?
What is working particularly well for you at the moment?
Where are you seeing the biggest opportunities for growth?
What challenges are you currently experiencing?
What is getting in the way of achieving the results you want?
3. UNCOVER THE NEED

Your objective: Find out what is really happening—not what you assume is happening.

How are you currently dealing with this?
What have you tried previously?
What has worked?
What hasn't worked?
If nothing changes, what impact could that have on the business?
What is this currently costing you in time, money, productivity or opportunity?
How important is it for you to address this?
4. DEFINE THE OUTCOME

Your objective: Understand what success would look like.

What would you ideally like to see happen?
What would a successful outcome look like for you?
If we could improve this area, what difference would it make?
How would you measure the improvement?
What would achieving that result mean for your business?
5. UNDERSTAND THE DECISION PROCESS

Your objective: Don't leave an appointment without understanding how decisions are made.

Who else would normally be involved in a decision like this?
How do you normally evaluate potential suppliers or solutions?
What is important to you when choosing a supplier?
What would you need to see or understand before moving forward?
Is there a budget already allocated for this?
What is your expected timeframe for making a decision?
6. CLARIFY BEFORE YOU PROPOSE

Before jumping into your solution, pause and clarify.

“Let me make sure I have understood you correctly…”

Then summarise:

The situation
The challenge
The impact
What they want to achieve
Their priorities
Their timeframe

Then ask:

“Have I understood that correctly?”

This is where clarity creates confidence.

7. MOVE TO THE NEXT STEP

Never finish a good conversation with:

“I'll get back to you.”

Instead, establish a clear next step.

Would it make sense to explore this further?
Would you be open to a more detailed conversation?
What would you like the next step to be?
When would suit you to continue the conversation?
Is there anyone else who should be involved in the next meeting?
Remember:

The objective of the first conversation isn't always to make the sale.

It is to determine whether there is a genuine opportunity and, if there is, secure the next appropriate step.

YOUR COLD-CALL CONFIDENCE CHECKLIST

Before you pick up the phone, ask yourself:

☐ Do I know who I am calling?
☐ Have I done my homework?
☐ Do I understand their business?
☐ Do I know what I want to achieve from the call?
☐ Do I have my key questions ready?
☐ Am I prepared to listen rather than talk?
☐ Do I know what information I need to uncover?
☐ Do I have a clear next step in mind?

CLARITY → CONFIDENCE → BETTER CONVERSATIONS → BETTER SALES RESULTS

You don't need to have “the gift of the gab.”

You need a process, preparation and the confidence to ask good questions.

NEED SOME HELP WITH YOUR PROSPECTING?

If you would like help and support to build your own Prospecting Blueprint, improve your cold calling and gain greater clarity and confidence in your sales conversations, please get in touch.

🔴 THE CURRENCY OF TRUST 🔴

Top Achievers Sales Training – Hit the road running

Trust is the most valuable currency in business—and in life.

It takes years to earn… and seconds to lose.

Trust is what:

Builds strong, lasting relationships
Drives business success, growth, and profitability
Strengthens teams and creates alignment
Earns loyalty from clients, suppliers, and stakeholders

When trust is present:

Teams feel motivated, engaged, and empowered
Communication flows openly and honestly
Decisions are made with confidence
Businesses thrive and grow sustainably

When trust is broken or missing:

Confidence disappears
Teams become disengaged and disconnected
Relationships fracture with clients and suppliers
Performance declines
Businesses become unstable—and can ultimately fail

Trust impacts everything:

Your team
Your leadership
Your clients
Your suppliers
Your reputation

👉 No trust = No foundation

🔑 Top Achievers Insight

Trust isn’t built through words alone—it’s built through consistent actions, integrity, and delivering on what you promise.

💡 Ask Yourself:
Do my actions build or break trust?
Am I consistent in what I say and do?
Do my clients and team feel confident relying on me?

Training to Perform at the Top of Your Game

Yesterday I was reminded of something really important.

Whether you are in sales, leadership, accounting, medicine, dentistry, hairdressing, policing, the Army, Air Force, Navy or pharmacy — you train.

You train to hone your craft.

You practise.
You refine.
You learn.
You are coached.
You develop your skills.

Why?

Because when the moment comes that you need to perform, you don't want to freeze.

You don't want to second-guess yourself.

You want your training and experience to kick in so you can execute to the best of your ability.

And sales and leadership are no different.

Being a good salesperson isn't enough.

Being given a leadership title doesn't automatically make you a great leader.

You need to continually train, practise, refine and be coached so that you can operate at the top of your game.

And when you do that, something else happens.

You become the example.

You set the standard for your team.

You show prospective team members what your organisation expects.

You establish the standard for how clients and prospective clients are treated.

You build trust.

You build relationships.

You operate with authenticity, integrity and professionalism.

And you build a reputation — for yourself, your team and your company.

The goal isn't simply to be competent.

The goal is to become the person people trust, rely on and recommend.

The person your clients want to deal with.

The person your team looks to.

The person suppliers respect.

The person others in your industry recognise as the go-to person.

And ultimately, becoming exceptional at what you do can create opportunities for greater responsibility, greater trust, higher positions and greater earning potential.

So ask yourself:

Are you training enough to perform at the top of your game?

Or are you simply relying on the experience you've already gained?

Your craft deserves continual investment.

Train. Practise. Be coached. Refine your skills. Raise your standards.

And become the person others know they can trust to deliver.

25/08/2026

The best salespeople aren't necessarily the best talkers.

They're the best listeners.

Listen with intent.

Listen with curiosity.

Listen without judgement.

Listen to understand—not simply to respond.

Because when you genuinely listen, you don't just hear the conversation.

You uncover the opportunity.

Your Time Management Blueprint for Success — and Overcoming Procrastination

For your Top Achievers Sales Training audience, I would position this as a practical blueprint rather than simply “time management.” The real issue is usually clarity, priorities, discipline and taking action.

1. CLARITY — Know What You Are Trying to Achieve

Before you fill your diary, ask:

What are my key sales/business goals?
What must I achieve this week?
What activities directly contribute to revenue?
What is urgent, and what is genuinely important?
What am I avoiding?

Rule: If you don't know what success looks like, it is very easy to procrastinate.

2. PRIORITISE — Focus on the Few Things That Matter

Use the 80/20 principle.

Identify the 20% of activities that produce 80% of your results.

For a salesperson, this might include:

Prospecting
Following up
Customer meetings
Presenting solutions
Asking for the business
Developing key accounts

Don't allow low-value administration to consume your prime selling time.

3. PLAN — Put It in the Diary

Don't simply write a to-do list.

Time-block your important activities.

For example:

8:30–9:00 — Plan your day
9:00–10:30 — Prospecting
10:30–11:00 — Follow-ups
11:00–12:30 — Client meetings
1:30–2:30 — Quotes/proposals
2:30–3:30 — Prospecting
3:30–4:00 — CRM/update pipeline
4:00–4:30 — Review and plan tomorrow

What gets scheduled is far more likely to get done.

4. OVERCOME PROCRASTINATION — TAKE THE FIRST STEP

Ask yourself:

“What am I procrastinating about?”

Then break it into the smallest possible action.

Instead of:

“I need to do my prospecting.”

Say:

“I am going to identify my first 5 prospects and make the first call.”

Action creates momentum.

5. USE THE 5-MINUTE RULE

When you are avoiding something, commit to doing it for just five minutes.

Open the document.
Make the call.
Write the email.
Start the proposal.
Update the CRM.

Often, starting is the hardest part.

6. ELIMINATE DISTRACTIONS

Ask:

“Is this helping me achieve my goal, or is it helping me avoid the work?”

Turn off unnecessary notifications.
Close unnecessary tabs.
Put your phone away during focused work.
Set specific times for emails and social media.

Your attention is one of your most valuable business assets.

7. HOLD YOURSELF ACCOUNTABLE

At the end of each day ask:

What did I accomplish?
What didn't I accomplish?
Why?
What needs to move forward tomorrow?
What is my ONE most important action tomorrow?

Don't beat yourself up over what didn't happen.

Learn from it, adjust the plan and keep moving.

THE TOP ACHIEVERS TIME MANAGEMENT FORMULA

CLARITY → PRIORITY → PLAN → ACTION → ACCOUNTABILITY → RESULTS

And my favourite message for your workshop would be:

Stop waiting until you feel motivated.

Get clear. Make the decision. Put it in your diary. Take the first step.

Action beats procrastination every time.

Your Daily Success Question

“What is the one thing I can do today that will make the biggest difference to my results?”

Do that before the day gets away from you.

22/08/2026

Are Your Sales Meetings Driving Performance?

Are you a sales leader?

What do your sales meetings look like?

A great sales meeting is not simply a time for everyone to sit around a table and talk. It should have purpose, structure, accountability and outcomes — while showing your team that you respect their time, their contribution and their expertise.

Start with structure

Every meeting should have:

A clear agenda
A defined start and finish time
A clear purpose and desired outcome
The key information you need from your team
Time for discussion and questions
Agreed actions and accountability
A clear summary of who is doing what and by when

Your team should leave knowing exactly what is expected of them.

What information do you need?

Use your meetings to understand what is really happening in your marketplace.

Ask:

Competitors

What are our competitors doing?
What are they doing better than us?
What are we hearing from their customers?
Where are the opportunities for us to differentiate?

Industry

What changes are happening in our industry?
What trends are we seeing?
What are our clients asking for?
What do we need to prepare for next?

Our business

Where are the gaps in our current sales process?
What do we need to change?
Where are we losing opportunities?
What can we improve to become a market leader?
How can we increase sales, market share and profitability?
Are your people equipped to succeed?

Ask your team:

What training or support do you need to achieve your goals, targets and budgets?

Perhaps they need help with:

Prospecting
Building relationships
Creating trust
Asking better questions
Handling objections
Negotiating
Closing
Account management
Time management
CRM and pipeline management
Leadership and communication
Building stronger relationships with clients, suppliers and colleagues

The goal is not simply to hit a number.

It is to help your people increase their performance, commission and bonuses while building long-term, trusted relationships.

Give your team a voice

Do you want team members to present something at the next meeting?

Give them ownership.

Ask someone to share:

A customer success
A market opportunity
A competitor insight
A new idea
A lesson learned
A process improvement
A challenge they have overcome

This develops confidence, communication skills and leadership capability.

Build a high-performing team culture

As a leader, be precise, honest and consistent.

Your team needs to know:

Where are we going?
Why are we going there?
What does success look like?
What is expected of me?
How will I be supported?

Strong leadership also means creating an environment where people feel confident to speak up, challenge ideas respectfully and ask for help.

Don't forget health, safety and wellbeing

Your sales meetings are also an opportunity to reinforce:

Health and safety
Risk identification and analysis
Workplace wellbeing
Workload and pressure
Team communication
Potential operational risks
What needs to change
How change will be managed

Change management should not be something you communicate once a decision has already been made.

Bring your people into the conversation.

The ultimate question

At the end of every sales meeting, ask:

“What are the three most important things we need to do next to improve our performance, increase profitability and strengthen our position in the market?”

Then assign responsibility.

Who?
What?
By when?

Because a meeting without action is simply a conversation.

A great sales leader creates meetings that provide clarity, accountability, confidence and momentum.

Your meetings should move your team forward — not simply fill their calendars.
