3 DAYS LEFT

Reminder to all competitors that there is 3 days left to enter your clips!!!

A reminder of how it works:
We want you to ‘Animate the Academy’s August’.
Everyone who entered can still compete whether you’re knocked out or not, we will have something for you.
But first, If you were still alive in the comp, you’re a legend, but you still have work to do. Your focus is to catch and capture 2 waves in your heat and we are still looking for the winners for 2025!

To show that you surfed the waves this month, you must place a piece of tape (black) on your board, or (silver or white) if you have a dark board. Make sure it’s on the top of your deck near or on your nose, so that it is visible in the video.

All must be posted to Instagram, tagging us and the sponsors of the division or category you are submitting to. In your caption, you should have your full name, school, division/category, and the hashtag .
For those of you who were still in the event before it was called off, you can submit your two best waves for consideration in the following divisions:

Roxy U18 Girls
Quiksilver U18 Boys
O’Neill U16 Girls
O’Neill U18 Boys
All divisions will have 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th placings.

Hello from Raglan, we wanted to do a shoutout to these legends. Fantastic communication and work. Our bus needed tyres that are no longer being made on Earth. New rims were required, which then impacted the brakes. Don't fit. Oh no. So...Momentum Tyres, in their own time and off their own back, found near-new second-hand tyres, a miracle, and then fitted them with no gain to themselves. Not only are they professional, but they are also very personable. We wish all the very best for you, Momentum Tyres. We love your work!

Hey everyone.
We hope everyone has arrived home safely. As you all know, we had to call off the final day of competition due to the tsunami advisory being placed on all coastal areas in New Zealand by the Civil Defence. We truly understand how disappointing this situation was, and we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and frustration it has caused you. Unfortunately, we had no choice but to call it off for safety reasons. Thank you all for your cooperation.

However, we are still amped and with our spono’s support, we still have lots of prizes to give out. So we have decided to move our competition online.
We want you to ‘Animate the Academy's August’.

Kia ora everyone,
The call has been made that we will meet again at 11:30am. Under these warnings there is no way we can run our event. Civil defence has said that the warning may be lifted at 12. If that is the case, we will run after this time. We will see…

30/07/2025

Morning everyone,
Due to the warning that was placed yesterday not yet being lifted, we have decided to delay the start of competition today.

We will aim for an 8.30am start.

Can all coaches/teachers/parents meet by the bus at 7.30am for an important meeting. Please keep all of your surfers out of the water this morning until after this meeting.

Hello to all.
As most of you have heard, there has been a massive earthquake north of Japan in Russia.
New Zealand emergency management agency has issued a low-level threat warning for residents all around the nation’s coastline. This possible tidal surge is expected to reach NZ shores around midnight tonight.
The agency said we could expect strong unusual currents and unpredictable surges.

What an awesome warning system we have now. We have had a 12 hour warning. So our plan is to watch closely as tidal surges have already reached Hawaii and by morning, 6am, once surges have already reached our shores, 6 hours earlier, we will have a more accurate/wiser viewpoint on what has happened.

At present we still plan on moving forward with our 7:30am start, but of course we will seek out information early. Please listen to the advice from the experts and please stay clear of the coast tonight.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the north pacific, and if everything is settled in the morning, we hope to see you at Manu Bay.

Hey legends.
Surf comp is a go!!!
Information evening/registration confirmation is at 6:30 pm at the Raglan Area School Hall on Monday next week (28th). It is very important that you are all there so you can receive all the essential info.

Information for travellers (accommodation etc.)
Our thinking.
This is a very complex weather system. (We wish it were as easy as this week)
Today, we have decided that our competition window is from Tuesday to Thursday. (We will not run on Friday)

We wish we could tie it down to the exact 2 days the surf comp will run, but the later we leave the call, the safer. We hope to run on Tuesday and Wednesday, but we could also run on Wednesday and Thursday. We will share our final decision on Monday night at the school hall, so please make sure you are there.

More Details:
1. If the comp runs on Tuesday, we would be highly likely to be at Ruapuke (A beach break 25mins south of Raglan). On Tuesday, a rain warning is expected for the afternoon. This could change to be earlier. Wind is predicted to be NE (offshore), but with a slight weakening of the high-pressure system to the east, the wind could shift to the NW. Not Good.
2. Wednesday. Light variable winds with a small but consistent swell on the points. Ruas could still be an option on this day.
3. Thursday.
A slight increase in the swell.

We always wish to run the first days in our comp window. We have a lot of moving parts that we find difficult to change, and we also understand that adults have busy lives, but safety comes first. Additionally, with over 160 competitors, Ruapuke would provide us with an excellent opportunity to run a double arena and complete the numbers within two days. But none of us wishes to have gale-force winds with rain warnings. Because of this, we are closely monitoring the front coming off Australia.
If we decide the weather is too heavy on Tuesday, with the close-period swell on Wednesday, it would be very difficult to run a double arena, and six-man heats would be a must.
Hope this helps you understand some of our thinking.

Keep amped and have a great weekend. See you all soon at the School Hall on Monday at 6:30 pm.
