Want to spend your fall semester in sunny San Diego? Our partner, Pacific Discovery, is considering launching a new Discovery Campus in San Diego. College students could attend their own classes online during the day, hit the beach or discover San Diego in their free time, and live their best laid-back life at our sister property, HI San Diego Point Loma Hostel. Reason #1 on why our new and improved Nepal Gap Year Program is the best!

Since we are fortunate enough to work with a partner in Royal Chitwan National Park that aims to create better lives for elephants in Nepal, our students get to learn about their journey into establishing an inspiring elephant welfare program that takes elephants out of the tourist industry.

We will spend a morning listening to the stories of our guide, participating in making elephant food, and simply enjoying sitting beside these gentle creatures while they graze, river bathe, play in the sand and walk through the bush in their massive chain-free corals.

Meet our new and improved gap year program to Nepal for Fall 2022!

Over the next week we will be running you through some of our most anticipated new activities in Nepal, but here's a little appetizer already:

♻️ Work, learn, cook and eat together with a host family on a permaculture farm
🐘 Care for elephants and learn about the difficulties they face in Nepal
πŸ‘‚ Introduction into sound healing on a 4-day yoga and meditation retreat
πŸ› Nepali cooking class and cultural immersion in a traditional Tharu home
🐯 Jungle walks and open jeep safaris through Royal Chitwan National Park
🏠 Homestays on our community volunteer project are back!!

Our Spring Students went to befriend some elephants at a sanctuary near Chiang Mai. They fed them, bathed them, helped their caretakers prepare medicine balls, and explored the complex issue the animal conservation world is facing.

Want to learn about the importance of wildlife conservation, and get involved in initiatives to preserve them? We still have a few spaces left on our Thailand Summer Program!

We are on the lookout for a few roles here at Pacific Discovery! Our 4 - 10 week itineraries are delivered globally in amazing destinations such as New Zealand, South East Asia, Central and South America to name a few!

The main aim of our gap year and summer programs are to help young adults gain confidence in themselves, learn more about the amazing world we live in and take time to unplug and refocus.

Operations Director

The Operations Director is a pivotal role, who provides a technical, specialist and experienced point of view on the daily operations of Pacific Discovery. From their experience of leading groups internationally they will oversee our operational, logistical and health and safety functions. The Group Operations Director will strive to create efficiency through systemisation and collaboration across the business.

Program Instructors

We look for passionate educators who are well travelled, comfortable with the varied components of the role, and empathetic and approachable to students and partner organizations alike.

As Program Instructor, your main focus is to ensure that programs run safely and smoothly while supporting students to have a transformational experience. The role encompasses:

- student safety and welfare;
- mentoring and role-modeling;
- coordinating travel logistics;
- budgeting and payments;
- building relationships with in-country partners; and facilitating experiential education elements – program curriculum and group reflection, service-learning projects, group dynamics, and in-country interpretation around environments, culture, history, sustainability.

Marketing Manager

The Marketing Manager is responsible for developing, implementing and executing the strategic marketing plan for the business in order to attract potential customers and retain existing ones. The Marketing Manager adopts a data driven market research and analysis approach to educate and inform Pacific Discovery marketing planning, strategy and sales/admissions processes.

After saying goodbye to BaΓ±os, our South America students said hello to the Amazon Rainforest! It was finally time for the highly anticipated two day rafting and camping trip...

Read all about their adventures in our latest blog post:

✨ Mauna Kea and a sky full of stars... It's hard to capture, but this photo says it all. The dormant volcano Mauna Kea is known to have one of the best stargazing skies in the world, and our students had the opportunity to lay on its summit and view it for themselves!

In the Galapagos, our students take time to understand the problems faced by these islands. They clean up beaches and are joined by local scientists who help them identify which plastics we are collecting and what effect they have on the environment and marine life.

It's one of the most rewarding parts of the Galapagos Islands Summer Program. Spaces are running low, so let us know if you're thinking of joining us for a summer full of rewarding volunteer work and fun adventures!

"This week, our crew finished the homestays in the Agato community. On the last night, each household made a presentation to show what they learned with their family. Everybody dressed up in the traditional outfits and looked very handsome and beautiful. Luke, Brandon, and Jason worked very hard on a dance that they presented with their host sister. Ayden, Aiden, and Balthi sung a song in the native language Kechwa in perfect harmony. The girls had a variety of presentations from music, singing, dancing, and embroidery. Kara and Sahaja learned to play the paga (an Ecuadorian musical instrument) with their families. Mollie and Ginny presented their personal embroidery they created with their family as well as a traditional dance with their two sisters. Sydney, Nyah, and Elle sung a traditional kechwa song with their family.

We were extremely fortunate and lucky to have the opportunity to stay with these families and learn from them and help them. Saying goodbye to all the amazing families was bittersweet. A few tears were shed giving the final hugs and goodbyes to every family."

Sometimes words speak louder than anything, which is proven by these kind words from the weekly South America parent email about the homestay experience in Ecuador. Want to read even more about it? Head to the link in bio to read about Kara's experience in the latest blog!
