Haere Ra + Good bye from Hana and the Deavoll family as we sign off from running the My Vegan Child socials & website 👋❤️

I’ve been too busy last few years to really put energy into this wee side project so fellow Vegan Mum Karla will be taking over from here!

I’ll leave her to introduce herself soon, but she will bring an international perspective being bilingual in Spanish, and she is an animator too, so stay tuned for more exciting content!

Meanwhile my vegan kids have been thriving for over 6 years now and they love living a cruelty free lifestyle. I will still be occasionally posting on my other insta account and I’m launching a new plant based dog food company later this year too 🌱❤️

Vegan Big Macs 🍔🌱👌

We made mini vegan Big Macs for the kids and big Big Macs for the adults.

Ingredients:
- burger buns
- burger patties, cooked then cut in half to make thinner. (Could use any vegan pattie here but these are the best IMO).
- sliced gherkins
- diced onions (for adults)
- sliced vegan cheese (we used )
- iceberg lettuce
- Big Mac special sauce: (1c vegan mayonnaise or similar, 1/4c finely diced gherkins/pickles, 1 tsp apple cider vinegar, 1tsp garlic powder, 1tsp onion powder, 1tsp paprika, 1Tbsp mustard). Or, could use picklenaise + mustard.

Instructions:
- layer toasted buns with special sauce, gherkins, burger pattie, cheese slice, lettuce, and more special sauce.
- for adults do two layers with a 3rd bun half in middle, plus add diced onions.

A classic New Zealand snack, and especially a Southland staple, the cheese roll usually consists of white bread rolled up with a cheese spread inside, then toasted with butter.

Thriving vegan kids 🌱💚👍

My kids have now been vegan almost 4 years, with the younger 3 having never eaten meat. Lately I’ve had lots of people ask for ideas and advice around transitioning their family to plant based which is so awesome. For everyone else - I have lots of info and recipes on my website www.myveganchild.org and I’ll do a blog soon too.🌱

My tip for today is this: it’s ok to be anxious about feeding your kids plant based. In our culture we are raised to believe we must have meat for protein, dairy for calcium, fish for omegas etc this type of cultural conditioning can be so ingrained it can take a while to break free - even after you have done all the research! Be assured that you can get all the nutrition you need on a well balanced plant based diet but without all the nasties like cholesterol/excess saturated fat/hormones. The only supplement we regularly take is b12 (which animals get supplemented with anyway) and vit D in the winter (as should we all). Follow other parents of to get ideas and do your research on the nutrition side to ensure your little ones are getting everything they need. It may take a few months to transition and get into the groove. Keep going and learning and exploring the wonderful world of plant powered eating 🌱✌️
