💚 Trap update 💚

The Enviroclub tamariki have caught their first pest - mīharo mahi! (amazing work). 👏

We were so excited to find a wee mouse in one of our traps. Enviroclub members will be checking the traps every other Friday morning with Ainsley, we wonder how many we'll get between now and the end of the year? 🤓

PS if your child is an Enviroclub member, please send them to school with a clean and empty jar, next Wednesday!

💚 Enviroclub update 💚

Yesterday we made the most of a sunny takura (winter's) day and went to check out our three new traps in the area between the kura and the roto (lake) that the tamariki, alongside the Curiosity Collective are acting kaitiaki (guardians) of. 🌞

Although we didn't find any pesky predators, we did find lots of mice footprints on our tracking gear and we're excited for our next trap check to see what we find! 🪤

It was so awesome to see how buzzed the Enviroclub members were to check the traps, and we were amazed at how much they remembered from their learning a few weeks back with Southern Lakes Sanctuary , Queenstown Lakes District Council , Wakatipu Reforestation Trust and Ōtākou Enviroschools. Thanks again to these rōpū (organisations) for making this hiamo (exciting) mahi happen! ✌

In Wai 2, we have been making Bags of Hope for the Cancer Society Southern.

Tara, our community manager for the Cancer Society here in Queenstown, will now collect these to be taken to hospitals in Christchurch, Dunedin, and Invercargill. These personalised bags are given to patients undergoing daily radiation or chemotherapy treatments to comfortably carry their belongings, reminding them they are not alone in their journey and showing community support.

A huge thank you to one of our former students for bringing in this adorable baby goat after school. It was an un-baa-lievable way to end the day, and we're not kidding when we say the little visitor was the GOAT (Greatest Of All Times!) 🐐

Our ORSome crew of students cemented some very valuable life skills; combining their financial literacy and Food Tech with a trip to New World. They carefully used the visuals to tick off their shopping lists, load up the conveyors and paid with cash. Their purchases will be used for their upcoming Food Tech lessons. A successful mission for everyone.
