🏆 WAKATIPU HIGH SCHOOL — WINTER TOURNAMENT WEEK: DAY 4 UPDATE 🏆

Another all-Wakatipu Grand Final highlighted Day 4 action, with Ice Hockey Gold taking out the tournament title over Ice Hockey Blue, alongside strong debuts in Indoor Climbing and Golf!

🏒 Ice Hockey
Ice Hockey Gold: Tournament Champions! Powered through their Top 4 Semi-Final against Dunstan/Cromwell (5–1 W) before capturing the Gold Medal in a thrilling 3–1 Grand Final victory against Wakatipu Blue.
Ice Hockey Blue: Silver Medalists! Blanked JMC/Taieri College 3–0 in the Semi-Final before battling hard in an electric all-Wakatipu Grand Final to secure 2nd place overall (3–1 L).

🧗 Indoor Climbing
WHS Mixed Team 1: Placed 3rd of 12 teams in their section and 8th of 27 overall.
WHS Mixed Team 2: Placed 6th of 12 teams in their section and 13th of 27 overall.
WHS Female Team: Placed 5th of 9 teams in their section and 19th of 27 overall.

⛳ NZ Under 19 Golf Championships
Toby Gallie: Sitting strong through two rounds with 71 and 72 heading into Round 3.
Josh Harris: Cards of 74 and 79 through the opening two rounds.

⚽ Football
Boys Football: Came up just short in a tight 1–0 battle against St Andrews College in the 3rd/4th Playoff to finish 4th overall.
Girls Football: Played out their 5th/6th Playoff match against Marian College, with the final result currently under review.
🏀 Basketball & 🏐 Netball
Senior A Boys Basketball: Dropped a tough pool play match against St Bedes College (100–61 L).
Senior A Netball: Dropped a heartbreaker to Marlborough Girls College (33–32 L) before falling 42–36 to Central Southland College in the 19/20 Playoff.

🏑 Hockey
Girls Hockey: Concluded pool play with a 4–1 loss against Rolleston College.

🏆 WAKATIPU HIGH SCHOOL — WINTER TOURNAMENT WEEK: DAY 3 UPDATE 🏆

Another massive day of action across the South Island, headlined by our Under 15 Rugby team crowning their undefeated week by taking home the Tournament Championship title!

🏉 Rugby
Under 15 Rugby: Tournament Champions! The boys capped off an incredible campaign by winning a tight Semi-Final against Central Southland College (21–17 W) before powering past John Paul II High School (45–14 W) in the Final to lift the trophy!

🏐 Netball
Senior A Netball: Maintained their outstanding form with a double-win day, taking down Geraldine High School (30–27 W) and delivering a strong performance against Craighead Diocesan (42–23 W).

⚽ Football
Boys Football: Put in a massive effort in the Top 4 Semi-Final, just coming up short in a tense 1–0 battle against Logan Park High School.
Girls Football: Picked up a impressive 3–0 shutout victory over Kaiapoi High School before fighting to a 1–1 draw against local rivals Mount Aspiring College with WHS winning the penalty shootout 3-2.

🏒 Ice Hockey
Ice Hockey Gold & Blue: Wakatipu Gold claimed local bragging rights in the derby matchup, edging out Wakatipu Blue 2–1 in a fast-paced game.

🏀 Basketball
Senior A Boys: Tabled tough openers in pool play, dropping results to Shirley Boys High (122–65 L) and Lincoln High School (78–72 L).

🏑 Hockey
Girls Hockey: Fought hard in a tough 2–0 loss against Southland Girls High School.
Boys Hockey: Continued to battle through pool play against strong opposition, falling to Whanganui Collegiate School (7–0 L).

🏀 Basketball
Junior A Boys: Put up a huge fight in the Top 4 Semi-Final against Christchurch Boys High School (97–87 L) before bouncing back in style with a 104–88 win over Christ's College in the 3rd/4th Playoff to claim the Bronze medal, well done boys!

🏉 Rugby
Under 15 Rugby: Kept their dominant form rolling with two huge wins, shutting out Geraldine (50–0 W) and powering past Darfield (31–5 W).

🏐 Netball
Senior A Netball: Secured back to back victories with strong performances against Avonside Girls High School (40–21 W) and Menzies College (52–25 W).

🏒 Ice Hockey
Ice Hockey Gold: Maintained their winning momentum with victories over King's High School (5–3 W) and Otago Boys High School (7–2 W).
Ice Hockey Blue: Showed relentless offense with wins over Dunstan/Cromwell (5–4 W) and King's High School (7–1 W).

⚽ Football
Boys Football: Stayed undefeated on the day with a 1–1 draw against Maruawai College and a 1–0 win over Roncalli College. Girls Football: Battled hard through a scoreless 0–0 draw against Queens High School 2nd XI and a 3–0 loss to Roncalli College.

🏑 Hockey
Girls Hockey: Narrowly edged out in a close contest against Columba College (2–1 L).
Boys Hockey: Gave it everything in tough matches against Cashmere High School (8–2 L) and also Shirley Boys High School (7-2 L)

🏆 WAKATIPU HIGH SCHOOL — WINTER TOURNAMENT WEEK UPDATE 🏆

Huge effort from all our Wakatipu teams competing across the South Island this week. It's definitely called Winter Tournament Week for a reason with some challenging conditions for a number of teams! Here is the latest roundup of scores and standings across all codes:

🏀 Basketball

Junior A Boys: Stormed through pool play with wins against Shirley Boys Spartans B (104–76), Twizel (78–44) and Greymouth (107–62). Despite a narrow 74–68 loss to Burnside, the boys secured a Top 4 spot after winning an 85–82 Quarter Final thriller against St Bedes! Good luck for the semis tomorrow!

🏉 Rugby & 🏐 Netball

Under 15 Rugby: Off to a dominant start with a 19–7 victory over Ashburton College followed by a 56–0 win over Hillmorton High School.

Senior A Netball: Bounced back from a 30–22 loss against Rolleston College to claim a 40–38 win over Nelson College for Girls.

🏒 Ice Hockey

Ice Hockey Blue: In top form with back-to-back wins over JMC/Taieri College (5–3) and Otago Boys High School (11–2).

Ice Hockey Gold: Unbeaten start with a 4–2 win against Dunstan/Cromwell and a 5–3 victory over JMC/Taieri College.

⚽ Football & 🏑 Field Hockey

Boys Football: Earned a 0–0 draw against Southland Boys High School before taking a 1–0 win against Taieri College.

Girls Football: Kicked off tournament play with an impressive 7–0 win over South Otago High School.

Girls Hockey: Faced tough competition in an opening 7–0 loss to Villa Maria College.

Boys Hockey: Dropped their opening match 8–1 against Rolleston College as pool fixtures continue.

⛳ NZSS Golf Championship

Team Result: Wakatipu finished 8th equal out of 24 teams overall.

Individual Placings:
Toby Gallie finished 12th (77, 73 — 150 Total)
Josh Harris finished T-21st (79, 75 — 154 Total)
Diego Maddison finished T-48th (79, 83 — 162 Total).

Football Girls Win the Final!

The 1st XI Girls Football team won the Central Otago competition title against MAC. Tied 1-1 at full time, WHS took out the penalty shootout 4-3.

Thanks to the Coaches and Managers for their work this season. Ka pai on a great season of mahi.

Celebrating Alumni Success: Abby Fookes Steps into Professional Cricket

At Wakatipu High School, we take immense pride in seeing our alumni excel in academia, industry, and high-performance sports.

Congratulations to former student Abby Fookes, who has officially earned her first contract with the Otago Sparks provincial cricket team. Balancing elite sports performance with her second year of Law and History studies at the University of Otago, Abby demonstrates the dedication, grit, and work ethic we strive to instil in all our students.

Abby’s milestone adds to Queenstown’s growing legacy of athletic excellence, joining fellow local talent Toby Hart and Mason Clarke in the professional ranks with Otago Cricket.
