John Parsons - Keeping our Children Safe Online - Whānau/Parent Presentation

Tuesday 17th March, 6 - 7pm
Te Kura Whakatipu o Kawarau Gym/Hall

We warmly invite, and encourage you, to join us for what will be an informative, and important presentation from John Parsons about your child and their safety online.

During the week, John will be spending time in classes with our learners, helping them to understand the importance of being safe online. He will then work with our staff in the afternoon and present to parents in the evening.

Even if your child is not yet using social media or spending much time online, this is an important topic for you, as a parent, to be aware of.

John will cover cyberbullying, online grooming, sleep, screen attachment, and protecting their identity online.

We would love to see as many of you there as possible. Our teachers and leadership team are seeing more and more incidences of online activity having an impact on our learners' wellbeing and their relationships with their peers. A lot of this is happening without parent awareness and is often alarming.

Please click on this link to RSVP. We invite all members of the community to join us (they do not need to have learners at our school to attend).

NB: This is an adults only event. Please do not bring children along.

Who is John Parsons?

John works with education, health and private sectors, providing specialist advice and direction on the safe and ethical use of Digital Communication Technology.

John is a published author of “Keeping Your Children Safe Online” and a social commentator who works throughout New Zealand and Internationally.

“Empathy is a gift children share between themselves every day, so when we see it we should acknowledge it, and when possible, reward it” — John Parsons

Calling all handy heroes!

We’re on the lookout for some volunteer builders to help us build a deck for our new learning space kindly donated by David Reid :)

The good news? All the decking is being delivered this week, so everything will be ready to go we just need some awesome people power to make it happen :)

If you’re a builder, or know someone who might be keen to lend a hand, we’d love to hear from you. This will be a fantastic way to support our tamariki and leave a lasting impact at our kura.

Please comment below or get in touch with the school if you’re able to help.

Ngā mihi nui, we really appreciate our amazing community 🙌
