We’re excited to let our community know that we will have a small number of spaces becoming available from January 2027.

💛 3 spaces for children under two

Wise Owl is a heart-led, teacher-owned early learning centre, led by an experienced team of teachers whose passion has always been — and continues to be — teaching, being alongside tamariki, and watching them learn, grow and flourish.

We are caring kaiako who genuinely love what they do. Our teachers are here because they love working with children, building meaningful relationships and being part of those wonderful everyday moments that make early childhood so special.

Wise Owl is a busy, happy and fun place to be — filled with laughter, friendships, exploration, creativity and plenty of opportunities for children to simply be children.

Strong relationships are at the heart of everything we do. We want every child who walks through our doors to feel safe, known, valued and that they truly belong — and we want our families to feel that sense of belonging too.

Whaea Mikayla ❤️

My ECE journey began when I was just 16 years old.

From the very beginning, I knew I had found something I was passionate about. I spent the next 10 years teaching, developing my skills, building relationships with tamariki and whaanau, and growing my love for early childhood education.

I then moved to a new centre where I spent five years teaching. While there were valuable experiences along the way, it was also a time that left me feeling disheartened and questioning whether teaching was still the right path for me. I even began exploring the idea of buying my own centre and sought advice from a family friend, Anette about what to look for.

During that conversation, Anette asked if I would be interested in doing some relieving work at Wise Owl.
My answer was a very quick "no!"

However, after a little convincing, I agreed to give it a try.

What started as relieving quickly turned into a full-time position, and it wasn't long before I realised I had rediscovered my passion for teaching.

Wise Owl was unlike any centre I had experienced before. The welcoming atmosphere, homely environment, genuine care for tamariki, and strong sense of community reminded me why I had fallen in love with teaching in the first place.

It has reignited my passion for learning alongside children, supporting their growth, and creating meaningful relationships with whaanau.

Over the past five years at Wise Owl, I have continued to grow both personally and professionally.

Every day, I feel privileged to be part of children's learning journeys, celebrating their achievements, nurturing their confidence, and helping them discover the world around them.

My love for teaching and learning remains as strong as ever, and I am grateful to be part of a community that values kindness, connection, and the importance of early childhood education.

Thank you for allowing me to be part of your children's lives and learning journeys. It is a privilege I never take for granted ❤️

My journey into Early Childhood Education began shortly after becoming a mum. Two years after welcoming my eldest daughter, Willow, I started studying, but it wasn't until my second daughter, Savannah, was born that I truly discovered my passion for teaching and supporting young children.

At the time, I was living in Thames and working in a wonderful early childhood centre, while my family remained in Pukekohe. Looking to return home, I reached out to Annette, a much-loved family friend who owned Wise Owl Preschool. As a single mum studying full-time, I needed both support and flexibility, and Annette kindly offered me a position at Wise Owl, along with places for my daughters.

Wise Owl quickly became more than just a workplace. It was a place where I could continue my studies, grow as a teacher, and watch my own children learn, develop friendships, and build a strong sense of belonging. Seeing them feel safe, secure, and connected within the centre only deepened my love for the Wise Owl whaanau.

Over the years, Wise Owl has been part of many important milestones in my family's life. My daughters spent their early years here, I completed my teaching journey, and my family grew when Andrew and I welcomed our son, Reid. When I became pregnant with Reid, I took two years away from teaching to focus on being at home with him and enjoying those precious early years together.

When the time came to return to work, there was never any question about where I wanted to be. Wise Owl had supported me through so many stages of life and had become such an important part of our family's story. It had always felt like home, and I knew exactly where I belonged.

Today, I am a fully registered teacher and feel incredibly grateful to do a job I genuinely love. Building meaningful relationships with children and their whaanau is the most rewarding part of my role, and I look forward to continuing this journey and seeing where the future takes me.
