Chisholm Bagpipe Tutoring is a bagpipe tuition service based in Prebbleton. We offer private lessons to new beginners right through to established players looking to expand their repertoire and technique.
Over time we have realised that there is a gap in tutoring services offered in Christchurch and we want to help bridge this void. Our tutoring service is offered to all keen bagpiping students Christchurch wide. Our tuition is structured to suit the specific goals of the student and we focus on adapting our lessons to best match the pupil’s style of learning. Our aim is to produce a positive and encouraging learning environment to maximise the musicality of the student. Lessons are held in Prebbleton, however alternate locations are considered if more than one pupil is receiving an adjoining lesson.
Angus Chisholm, our founder and lead tutor, has extensive expertise in light music and piobaireachd. His natural musical ability and friendly nature provide a sound learning platform for students. Angus has a reputably strong and significant history in the solo bagpiping and band playing community of New Zealand. In 1995 Angus began his high school years at St Andrew’s College where he focused his energies into playing and his piping ambitions grew. Following St Andrews, Angus was motivated and eager to expand his piping technique. He sourced his knowledge from many of NZ’s best and renown bagpipers including Airdrie Stewart, Dave Boyle and Alastair Munro.
It is time for Angus to pass his valuable knowledge on and help other keen pipers emerge. As an active father of four, Angus’s charismatic nature, and his encouraging fun-loving temperament, is a perfect environment to nurture pupils and allow them to grow into their best musical self. Bagpiping cannot inherently be learned from a book - it is traditional learnt by verbally being passed down from generation to generation and Angus is dedicated to imparting his talents and learnings of the instrument to others.
Chisholm Bagpipe Tutoring has no current affiliation with any pipe band in particular; however, we do have a vast number of contacts throughout the bagpiping community and can offer introduction and assistance with integrating players into a local band, or a band further afield.
We provide one-on-one chanter and bagpipe lessons for pipers of all levels. Based in Prebbleton.
