Here is the amazing Chinese New Year dragon they created! His name is Lóng (Mandarin for dragon). The children were so excited to see him come to life and be part of our celebration.

In this video, one of our curious 4-year-olds explores his enjoyment for The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Inspired by the story, he independently set out to create his own book, choosing his materials, planning his pages, and bringing his ideas to life.

This is Montessori in action — freedom within limits, purposeful work, and learning driven by the child’s own curiosity. When children are trusted with the tools and space to follow their interests, they naturally develop concentration, confidence, and a genuine love for learning.

The life cycle of the Monarch Butterfly

An early spring, monarch left us a tiny caterpillar—and the children have been captivated ever since. We bought a few extra swan plants to keep our little caterpillar well-fed, and it turns out they came with some hidden eggs… so now we have even more caterpillars! 🙂

To keep our little caterpillars safe from predatory wasps, we’ve brought them into the foyer where tamariki can observe their incredible journey from caterpillar to chrysalis to butterfly. Watching metamorphosis up close has sparked their curiosity, and butterflies are now fluttering into other areas of our curriculum.

Nature truly is the best teacher.

At Mana Montessori Preschool, we love exploring our community and this week’s excursion was extra special.

We hopped aboard a double-decker bus and headed to Te Rauparaha Arena Kindy Gym, where tamariki had an amazing time climbing, balancing, jumping, and exploring all the fantastic gym equipment.

What a wonderful day of fun, movement, and laughter! 💕

We’re getting close to finishing our outdoor renovations, and the children have already been enjoying the new playground space.

There’s still a little more to come as we’re waiting on the final playground matting to be installed so we can add even more gross motor play opportunities for our tamariki to explore and enjoy throughout their day.
