This week, we proudly celebrated Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa, embracing the beauty, language, culture, and traditions of Samoa.
Our tamariki enjoyed a range of hands-on experiences, including stencil painting, learning siva Samoa, tasting delicious koko alaisa lovingly prepared by our beautiful Imani, and making and enjoying pani popo with Pone. These experiences provided meaningful opportunities for children to explore and connect with Samoan culture through creativity, movement, food, and shared learning.
Celebrating the richness of the Samoan language and culture within our kindergarten community honours the heritage, identity, and connections of our tamariki and whānau of Samoan descent. It is a time for us all to deepen our understanding of Samoan traditions and values while fostering a sense of belonging and pride.
As one of the most widely spoken Pacific languages in Aotearoa, recognising and celebrating Gagana Samoa also helps support and preserve this treasured language for future generations.
