Given the week we have just had, I want to recognise the timing is not great for the staff only day which is happening on Monday 17 August. This means school is closed on Monday.

We have been developing a maths curriculum framework for our school for the past 6 months and this follows on from a staff only day on the 15th of December 2025.
The Ministry of Education has provided schools 2 curriculum days in 2026 and 2 more in 2027 to help implement all of the changes.

Another successful student-led pōwhiri today at Tairangi School!

It was awesome to see some new faces stepping up onto our paepae, joining our kaikaranga rōpū, and supporting our manuhiri as part of Te Rōpū Manaaki.

These are important leadership roles, and our senior students continue to grow in confidence as they learn to uphold our tikanga, manaakitanga and the mana of our kura.

Ka mau te wehi, senior students. We are incredibly proud of the way you stepped up and represented Tairangi today. 🌿

Firstly, thank you to everyone for your support with an adapted program today.

I am pleased to share we have managed to secure enough relievers to reopen the school tomorrow for all classes. We anticipate having 4 teachers away, possibly for the rest of the week, but will try our best to remain open as normal.

Sadly, we will need to

cancel Homework club tomorrow,
cancel our annual Board of Trustees Dinner tomorrow,
and postpone our second Samoa aiga consultation on Thursday.

Once again, please accept my sincere apologies for this unexpected disruption.

Please consider keeping your children at home tomorrow if you are able. Our school will remain open, but due to more than 1/2 of our teachers being away sick, we will be unable to operate the school as normal.

Today, Monday 10th we have 4 of our 8 teachers away sick and have managed to keep the school open.

However, tomorrow Tuesday 11th we will have 6 of 8 teachers away. Our 2 remaining teachers will be supported by up to 2 relievers and our Teaching Assistants to provide an alternative programme should you need to send your children to school.

You have my sincerest apologies for this disruption and I want to thank you for your support.

Events in Red may affect you significantly, such as school opening hours, or may require written permission. All of these will have more details coming home soon or already have such as Te Kiwa Nui.

We will not be celebrating Cook Island Language week in our normal way, but instead treat our Te Kiwa Nui performance as our community performance.

Today, Rooms 6 and 7 had their 2nd Ko Wai Au programme with the Whānau Centre, led by the amazing Jah and Jared.

Today they also learnt about the different parts of the taiaha, including the Arero, Karu, Awe, Upoko, Tinana, Ate and Rau. Each part has its own purpose and meaning, helping students appreciate the history, craftsmanship and cultural significance of this taonga.

It was wonderful to see our tamariki fully engaged, showing curiosity, respect and a willingness to learn. We are excited to watch them continue to grow throughout the Ko Wai Au programme.

Ngā mihi nui to Jah, Jared and the Whānau Centre for sharing their knowledge and helping our students strengthen their identity, culture and sense of belonging.

It’s easily spread between people and won't go away without treatment.
Everyone in your household should be treated at the same time, and you’ll also need to clean all used bedding and clothing.

Treatment is Free at Waitangirua and Cannons Creek Pharmacies for:
Community Services Card holders
Children under 14 years
Adults aged 65 years and over
Prescription Subsidy Card holders
$5 per person for all others
