Nuanua Kindergarten

Nuanua Kindergarten High Quality Early Childhood Education Nuanua Kindergarten in the heart of Cannons Creek nurtures the Samoan and Tokelauan languages and culture.

Nuanua is the first Pasifika kindergarten under the umbrella of He Whanau Manaaki o Tararua. Teachers are fluent in these languages and use languages throughout the learning experiences and activities. We have a brand new building, opened in 2015, with state of the art facilities. We operate as a community, Nuanua village, with space for community activities and services. Children with their teacg

ers gather for Lotu (devotions). We start on a positive note with blessings that set the tone for the day. This is also a time to welcome new children and families to the Nuanua village. Every Friday fortnight, Pastor Timo from Minorah Church joins and leads us for Lotu.

At Nuanua Kindergarten, we value the strong connections we have within our local community. Over the past little while, our tamariki have enjoyed visits to both Cannons Creek School and Cannons Creek Library, creating meaningful learning experiences that support their confidence, curiosity, and sense of belonging.

📚 At Cannons Creek School, our children took part in a fun learning activity where they practised using scissors to carefully cut out numbers before matching and gluing them onto a caterpillar in the correct order from 1–5. Through this experience, our tamariki were developing their fine motor skills, number recognition, counting, and perseverance, while also becoming familiar with a school environment and what learning can look like beyond kindergarten.

📖 At Cannons Creek Library, our tamariki were warmly welcomed by librarian Donnie, who shared a couple of engaging stories that captured everyone's imagination. Afterwards, the children enjoyed colouring a special picture featuring the message, "You will always have me," encouraging creativity and conversations about kindness, friendship, and belonging.

A truly special highlight of our visit was when our tamariki proudly performed the Samoan and Tokelauan songs they have been practising over the past few months in preparation for Te Kiwa Nui. Their confidence, enthusiasm, and pride in sharing their cultures filled the library with joy. Donnie shared how much she loved hearing the songs, especially because of her close connections to Tokelau, making the moment even more meaningful for everyone.

These experiences help strengthen our children's confidence as learners, nurture a love of literacy and numeracy, celebrate our diverse cultures, and build lasting relationships within our community.

Fa'afetai lava and thank you to the wonderful teams at Cannons Creek School and Cannons Creek Library for welcoming us so warmly. We look forward to many more opportunities to learn and grow together. 💙💛❤️

🌺 Vaiaso o Le Gagana Samoa 2026 at Nuanua Kindergarten 🌺

What a beautiful way to end our Samoan Language Week celebrations here at Nuanua Kindergarten!

We gathered together for our closing Lotu, where we were blessed to have our special guest, Lealofi (Kytanah’s papa), join us and share some beautiful Samoan songs. In return, our tamaiti proudly performed some of our kindy Samoan items, showcasing the songs and learning they have been practising throughout the week.

Our tamaiti came dressed in their stunning laei Samoa, and they all looked absolutely amazing! It was wonderful to see them celebrating and embracing the beauty of Samoan culture with such pride and confidence.

Throughout the day, our tamaiti enjoyed a range of cultural activities including screen printing, pale (flower headpiece) making, flag making, and lots of singing and dancing. These experiences provided opportunities for creativity, cultural connection, language learning, and celebrating our Samoan heritage together.

We were also fortunate to break bread with our whānau during a shared lunch. It was a special time of fellowship, connection, and celebration. Our tamaiti enjoyed delicious sapasui and alaisa, sharing kai and laughter with their friends and families.

Fa’afetai tele lava to all our whānau who joined us and supported our celebrations throughout the week. Your presence helped make this week even more meaningful.

“E afua mai i mauga tetele manuia o le nu’u.”
“From the high mountains are the blessings of the village.”

May we continue to cherish the wisdom, strength, language, and culture passed down through our families and communities.

🇼🇸❤️ Fa’afetai lava and happy Samoan Language Week from all of us at Nuanua Kindergarten! ❤️🇼🇸

🌺 Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa at Nuanua Kindergarten 🌺

A*o Lulu - Today was another wonderful day celebrating Samoan Language Week!

Faiaoga Reta, Tu’u, and Tino took some of our 4-year-olds to visit the new Samoan bilingual class, Vasega Measina, at Russell School. Our tamaiti had an amazing time participating in cultural activities such as making sei (flower garlands), screen printing ie lavalava, singing, dancing, and sharing fellowship over a delicious morning tea of koko alaisa and panikeke.

It was a beautiful opportunity to connect with our wider community, strengthen relationships, and celebrate the richness of Samoan language and culture together. Fa’afetai tele lava to Vasega Measina for welcoming us so warmly. Our tamaiti had an unforgettable experience!

Back at kindy, our tamaiti were busy participating in traditional Samoan activities including valuga talo (peeling taro) and valuga popo (coconut scraping).

These hands-on experiences help children develop fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, concentration, and perseverance. They also provide opportunities for children to learn about traditional Samoan ways of preparing food, connect with their cultural heritage, and gain an appreciation for the knowledge and skills passed down through generations.

What a fantastic day of learning, culture, connection, and fun! 💙❤️🤍

🇼🇸 Samoan Language Week 2026 at Nuanua Kindergarten 🇼🇸

This week we are celebrating Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa - Samoan Language Week.

This year’s theme is:

“E afua mai i mauga tetele manuia o le nu’u”
“From the high mountains are the blessings of the village.”

This theme reminds us to value the wisdom, strength, and blessings that have been passed down through Samoan families and communities.

Throughout the week, our tamaiti will be taking part in a range of exciting cultural experiences, including:

🍌 Fofo’ega Fa’i - Peeling Green Bananas
🥥 Valuga Popo - Coconut Scraping
🎨 Screen Printing
🏏 Kilikiti - Samoan Cricket
and many more.

These hands-on experiences help our tamaiti learn about Samoan language, culture, traditions, and identity in meaningful and engaging ways.

Keep an eye on our page throughout the week as we share photos and stories of our tamaiti participating in these activities and celebrating the richness of Samoan culture.
