🩷 Congratulations to our 2026 GirlBoss Tūrama Interns! 🩷
Earlier this year, we launched the 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹𝗕𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗧𝘂̄𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗮 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 @ Spark a paid, 8-week, in-person internship for young women aged 18 to 24 to step inside Spark stores and Spark HQ in central Auckland and gain real-world experience in tech and customer-facing roles.

Today, our very first cohort of extraordinary young women graduated. We are so proud of them! 🥹

And many have already been offered permanent placements at Spark off the back of the programme!!

A massive thank you to Spark for backing this kaupapa.

𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹𝗕𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗘𝗱𝗴𝗲: 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 🎉

It is an honour to share this special message from the Hon Simeon Brown MP, Minister of Health, congratulating the ten young women selected as winners of this year's GirlBoss Edge Healthcare Challenge.

Over 1,700 young women aged 15 to 21 from hundreds of schools and universities across Aotearoa took part in 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹𝗕𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗘𝗱𝗴𝗲: 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 this April.

The 10-day accelerator connected them with healthcare mentors and industry leaders, and challenged them to develop practical solutions to real health and wellbeing issues facing New Zealand communities.

More than 1,000 solutions were submitted.

Our judging panel selected these ten exceptional winners:

🩺 𝗔𝗯𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗮 𝗡𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗸𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗿, 16, One Tree Hill College, Tāmaki Makaurau created a workshop series helping young athletes recognise imbalanced health, and equipping coaches with the tools to support them.

🩺 𝗛𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗻, 17, Green Bay High School, Tāmaki Makaurau, 𝘉𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘈𝘗𝘗 a personalised app helping young people build and maintain healthy everyday habits.

🩺 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝘀𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗞𝗮𝘂𝗿, 17, Ormiston Senior College, Tāmaki Makaurau, 𝘋𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘥𝘦 𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘉𝘰𝘥𝘺, short engaging video clips making everyday healthcare situations clear and relatable for Gen Z.

🩺 𝗠𝘆𝗹𝗮 𝗥𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗞𝘂𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘂, 15, St Mary's College, Tāmaki Makaurau, ideated 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘈𝘵𝘩𝘭𝘦𝘵𝘦 𝘌𝘥𝘪𝘵, a Vogue-inspired video series showcasing the real, unfiltered experiences of female athletes.

🩺 𝗢𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗮 𝗚𝗲𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗴, 17, Samuel Marsden Collegiate School, Te Whanganui-a-Tara, created 𝘓𝘶𝘯𝘢𝘊𝘺𝘤𝘭𝘦, a logging tool helping female athletes understand how their menstrual cycle impacts performance and hauora.

🩺 𝗔𝘃𝗮 𝗞𝘂𝗯𝗼, 17, Motueka High School, Whakatū, created 𝘔𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘥, an app designed to support the wellbeing of neurodivergent rangatahi across Aotearoa.

🩺 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗮 (𝗭𝗶𝗫𝗶) 𝗤𝘂, 16, Wellington Girls' College, Te Whanganui-a-Tara, created 𝘛āwh𝘪𝘳𝘪𝘮ā𝘵𝘦𝘢, a low-cost wearable assessing air quality for people living with asthma.

🩺 𝗖𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻, 15, St Mary's College, Tāmaki Makaurau, designed 𝘝𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘚𝘺𝘯𝘤, a wearable designed to monitor patients while they wait in Emergency Departments.

🩺 𝗝𝗮𝘆𝗹𝗮𝗵 𝗥𝗮𝗺𝘀𝗮𝘆, 17, McAuley High School, Tāmaki Makaurau, created 𝘌𝘹𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘦, a mobile game helping young people break free from va**ng and reclaim their health.

🩺 𝗞𝗲𝘇𝗶𝗮𝗵 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝗮𝗻 𝗡𝗶𝗯𝘂, 18, UCOL Whanganui (Bachelor of Nursing), Whanganui, created 𝘏𝘢𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘹, a game-based experience supporting tamariki living with Type 1 diabetes in Aotearoa.

These young women represent the next generation of our healthcare workforce, and I know our country is in extraordinary hands. 🙌

Our heartfelt thanks to Minister Simeon Brown MP for taking the time to recognise these wāhine toa and the work of every young woman who took part.

With gratitude to our partners Sport New Zealand, HealthCarePlus, TechStep, and Ministry for Pacific Peoples, whose belief in this kaupapa makes it possible.

Together we are building one of the largest early pipelines of young people exploring careers in the health sector in Aotearoa.
