Piako Toastmasters Welcome to Piako Toastmasters! We are a friendly club that nurtures its members to achieve their leadership & public speaking goals.

We meet every second and fourth Wednesday each month. Piako Toastmasters was chartered on the 11th March 1982 and is an affiliate of Toastmasters International. The club celebrated its 40th Anniversary this year. The mission of Piako Toastmasters is to empower individuals to become more effective communicators and leaders. Our club creates a supportive environment that helps members overcome apprehension about public speaking.

We had another fabulous evening of Piako Toastmasters, toasting the prior years achievements. The theme was new beginnings, from the incoming president.

We had James speak again about his time in Japan. This was a moving tribute to Mihara, who showed James and his wife His Japan and welcomed them into His life, taking them under His wing and creating lifetime memories.

Next up Georgie celebrated the successes of club members. Through stealth research Georgie ascertained and presented the following award cups...

Evaluator of the year - Max Fairhall...for the many evluations in the last year...note his name already on the cup 14 times 👀.

Table Topics - Anita van Beek...for participating the most in all aspects of this challenging 1 to 2min speaking time slot.

Most Improved - James Wylie for the growth he has shown in the last year. Tonight's example enchanting us with his Japan adventures and bringing forth a touch of grief so careingly.

Toastmaster of the Year - Jennie Burke for stepping up as and being a very capable president, to completing a number of speeches and evaluating/ filling in meeting roles as needed, always willing with a winning smile.

Meeting cups for the night were awarded to Georgie for her Table Topic on what would one change if one could. Jennie won the Grammarian's gavel for her eloquent evaluation of James and James won the general evaluators award for his speech on his Japanese mentor Sensei Mihara

Now the photo board...

Another fantastic night at Piako Toastmasters. The theme was Unshakable Optimism led by our very enthusiastic Emma, always smiling.

The word of the night was Unflapable and used by 90٪ of us at least once.

Jennie spoke about her mentors at Toastmasters and how they supported her as President in her first year with us....see the last photo for your potential club executive position next year 😄.

James entertained us with his uplifting experiences at Hojo Elementary school in Japan where he was an English teacher...spot the kids album, plus one of his portraits.🫢

The table topics cup was awarded to Emma for her palpable enthusiastiam for frogs in her garden.
Georgie Templeton, who joined us online, was the Grammarian's choice of the night, slotting in the word unflappable several times during the evening.
The General Evaluator cup went to Emma as well, for her exemplary ex*****on of the Toastmasters role tonight.

For a dose of positivity join us next time in person on the 22nd April, 7.30pm start.
We met at the Rotary Community Centre, 45 Canada street, Morrinsville.

Tonight's meeting was a hoot. With Progress! the theme and Tenacious the word of the day.

Members reflected on how attending toastmasters had progressed other aspects of their life. A most enjoyed evening with lots of belly laughs.

James was Toastmaster for the first time did an admirable job keeping ths meeting flowing well. So was awarded the GE trophy.

Heather spoke on being a protégé and of all the hobbies and interests she has been mentored in. While Max took on an impromptu speech about foods to avoid...we feel tripe and sheep's brain are valid candidates.

Grammarians gavel was awarded to Jennie for a colourful story and the Table topics trophy was awarded to Tania for great structure and interest.

Come along and join us on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month at the Rotary Community Centre in Morrinsville, 7.30pm start. 😊
