Yet another great FTKD grading day last Saturday in Morrinsville. Everyone showed up with enthusiasm and, as usual, a whole bunch of nerves. We managed to get through it all with the usual cuts, bruises, and aches and pains. but no one really feels those until the next day. With it now over, now its time to move on to new patterns and to improve on the techniques that everyone has developed over the previous months. Now also presents a great opportunity for new students to join the team and have a full 3-4 months before the next grading in November.

Patterns - a sequence of moves that are used in both defense and attack. But they have more meaning than just the “doing”. They are tributes to events, people, locations, etc. in Korean history. The names, numbers of movements or the sequence of the movements relate to those items of Korean cultural significance
The students work hard to make sure they are precise and improve with every set, every move complete before moving to the next.
As instructors, we use patterns as a way of observing the progression of the students. We can see how their balance, centre of gravity, technique, muscle control and other physical movements have progressed since they started their training. Mental training is also used when doing patterns. Focus and concentration are large when trying to stay in time with the others in your gup.

Black belt trainings are held monthly and are over seen by Grand Master John Feast.
These sessions offer student a more intense training in preparation to grade to black belt while also giving black belts more knowledge and perfecting techniques to pass on to present and future students.
These trainings are hard and push students both mentally and physically.
What you put in you will get back 10 fold.
