In Hihi class, we have been creating self-portraits.
We carefully explored the shapes, colours, and details of our facial features, learning how to draw eyes, noses, mouths, and other features accurately.
After completing our portraits, we reflected on what makes each of us unique and wrote a sentence about why we are special.
It has been a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our individuality and creativity.
We now have a fabulous portrait gallery on our classroom wall!

In Kererลซ class, we have been having so much fun exploring measurement! We began our learning by measuring with non-standard units, such as blocks and our own footsteps. Through these hands-on activities, the children discovered an important mathematical concept: to measure accurately and fairly, we need to use identical units. This engaging approach helped develop their understanding of measurement while building their mathematical vocabulary and comparison skills in a meaningful and enjoyable way.

โจ Matariki at Petone Central School โจ
Over the past couple weeks, our classrooms have been buzzing with learning as we celebrated Matariki across the school.
Students have explored the stories and significance of the different stars within the Matariki cluster, discovering the values of remembrance, celebration, gratitude, and looking ahead with hope.
Learning has come to life through a wide range of activities. Our tamariki have created beautiful artwork inspired by Matariki, baked delicious treats to share, learnt traditional games, listened to pลซrฤkau (stories), and taken part in hands-on rotations within their syndicates.

Students have designed and created their own string and percussion instruments, composed original rhythmic patterns, and developed their understanding of beat, rhythm, pitch, and tempo. They have also learned basic percussion techniques using drumsticks, practising and performing along to both classical and contemporary songs. It has been wonderful to see their creativity, enthusiasm, and growing musical confidence throughout this learning journey.
