This morning one of our tamariki was keen to make a boat at Kindergarten. Throughout the morning many tamariki were inspired to create their own boats too with Kaiako supporting the process through scaffolding when they needed it. Through their boat play tamariki had opportunities to build on their knowledge of early scientific concepts including floating, sinking and balance as well as trying out ways to move the boats around the water, blowing the sails and making 'waves'.

Building with blocks and reels at Kindergarten provides so many opportunities for problem solving, working together, creativity, exploration and fun!

Lots of creative mahi happening at Petone Kindergarten lately. The cool melt guns are such a great tool we use to support this as they dry quickly and tamariki can build onto their constructions.

It was awesome to have Mina from 'Project Jonah' come along to Kindergarten today to teach us about the amazing marine mammals that are right here on our coastline and how we can help protect both them and the moana/ocean that they call home.

As part of Enviroschools mahi we have been making recycled paper briquettes - great for putting in the fire and bottling the 'Worm wee' from our worm farm ready for your garden. We are selling these for a gold coin donation and all proceeds will go towards new puzzles for the tamariki at Petone Kindergarten.

We have been enjoying reading everyones favourite books this week as a part of our NZ book week celebrations. A great way to foster an interest in and enjoyment of reading and listening to stories.

Ngā mihi to everyone who supported our recent pie fundraiser. We purchased Nuimcon to utilise as a play-based, early mathematics resource.

We enjoyed voting on names for our Heihei yesterday, we chose Kowhai, Raya, Chickaletta, Hokey pokey, Heihei and Penelope!
