What an incredible display of kindness and community spirit from our school whānau!

Thanks to your generosity, we collected a record 48 very full boxes of food donations for our local food bank. We are truly overwhelmed by the support shown by our students, families, and staff. Your willingness to give will make a real difference to individuals and families in our community who need a helping hand.

Thank you for reminding us that even small acts of kindness, when combined, can have a huge impact. We are so grateful for your compassion and generosity, and proud to be part of a school community that cares so deeply for others.

Together, we have shown that by looking after one another, we can help create a stronger, kinder community for everyone.

Thank you again to everyone who contributed. Your support has been greatly appreciated, and we know these donations will bring comfort and hope to many local families.

This is a reminder that our Food Bank Appeal ends this morning.
We are collecting all the donated items from classrooms this morning at 9:00 a.m., and will pack the boxes ready for the Food Bank van to pick up around 11:00 a.m.
Thank you so much for supporting us to help support the Food Bank and the incredible work they do.
Every little bit helps and together we can help make sure that people in our community are being cared for.
Thank you for your kindness.

Here's some roadworks information from the council:

We wanted to let you know about some upcoming works in the Princess Road area (Bellevue) that may impact travel to and from school.

What is happening?
Work will be taking place at 4 Princess Road to install and upgrade telecommunications equipment (antennas and radios on an existing pole).

When will this happen?
Start date: 8 June 2026
End date: 13 July 2026
Work will generally occur during the day between 9am and 2.30pm (traffic management set up from approx. 7:00am and removed by 7:00pm).

What to expect?
One lane will be closed at times, with a local detour in place around the surrounding streets (Windsor Rd / Queen Rd).
Traffic management will be on site to guide vehicles safely.
Footpaths may be affected, and pedestrians may be:
redirected to the other side of the road, or
assisted safely through the site by traffic staff.
Driveway access will be maintained at all times.

Safety
Traffic controllers will be present to help pedestrians and manage traffic flow.
Please remind tamariki to:
follow all signage
listen to traffic management staff
take extra care when walking or biking through the area

Traffic impacts
Some minor delays are possible, however the road is not expected to experience significant congestion.

We appreciate your patience while this work is completed and thank you for helping keep everyone safe during this time.

The Super 11 Badminton Tournament was held in Whakatāne on Friday 22 May. Students competed in doubles matches against schools from across the region. There were 32 girls’ teams and 25 boys’ teams participating in the tournament.

All three of our boys’ teams progressed through to the quarter-final knockout round of 16 teams, which was an excellent achievement. Our girls’ teams also performed very well, winning 6 out of 7 games, 4 out of 7 games, and 3 out of 7 games respectively. Unfortunately, only the top four teams progressed to the semi-finals, with one of our teams narrowly missing out.

Every student represented the school positively, showing great sportsmanship, teamwork, and effort throughout the day. We are very proud of how they competed and conducted themselves.

Congratulations to Harper Stull for representing our kura and winning 1st place in the "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Language Proficiency competition. Harper and Miss Li (OIS Mandarin Language tutor) went to Wellington on Saturday for the "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Language Proficiency competition. Harper performed a traditional Chinese dance, and was interviewed in Mandarin. Miss Li and Harper spent the last couple of weeks working hard on Harper's Mandarin speaking, and Harper put the mahi into learning the traditional dance she performed so gracefully. Kudos to Miss Li for getting the funding from Confucius Institute for Miss Li and Harper to fly to Wellington for this competition. Congratulations Harper and Miss Li from OIS!
