Some of you might have noticed two cute new additions to our playground this week!
A huge thank you to Sheep Services Wairarapa for kindly supplying our two new boy lambs!
They’ll be spending the next few weeks with us, providing lots of hands-on learning opportunities for tamariki across all the rooms, including Pōhutukawa. This is a wonderful extension of our learning from March, when Karl visited Busy Bees to give us an awesome sheep-shearing demonstration. We’re so excited to continue learning about, caring for and connecting with these special new visitors!

Spring has officially sprung here at Busy Bees Greytown, and our learning spaces have been blooming with curiosity! With flowers appearing around us, we have enjoyed some beautiful spring-inspired learning provocations, including exploring some colourful camellia flowers. Tamariki have been busy touching, pulling apart, arranging, creating and investigating — noticing all the tiny details that make each flower unique.

These experiences connect beautifully with Te Whāriki – Mana Aotūroa | Exploration, as tamariki use their senses, curiosity and developing working theories to explore and make sense of the natural world.

And, of course, this is our Busy Bees “Bee Curious” curriculum in action! 🐝💛 By providing real, hands-on experiences inspired by the world around us, we encourage our tamariki to ask questions, explore freely and discover the magic in everyday things.
We can’t wait to see where our springtime curiosity takes us next... it might possible include somthing cute and fluffy!

⚽🌟 What a fantastic day at BB Greytown! 🌟⚽

Today we were honoured to welcome Hearty from Healthy Heart to our centre to present our wonderful Grace with our Gold / Pā Harakeke Healthy Heart Award. 🏆💛 This achievement reflects the commitment of our team to promoting healthy eating, active play, and positive wellbeing for all tamariki.

Making the day even more special, it was also our Football World Cup Day! 🌍⚽ Hearty joined in with our Move Programme, seeing firsthand the enthusiasm and energy of our tamariki as they stayed active and had fun together.

Our tamariki also enjoyed learning about healthy foods from around the world, exploring how different cultures enjoy nutritious meals that help keep us healthy and strong. 🥗🍎🌽

To finish off the celebrations, Kaiako Laura surprised everyone with a picture of Karen as the England football captain! 🏴⚽ The tamariki thought it was hilarious and had a wonderful time colouring it in and making it their own.

A big congratulations to Grace and our whole team on this fantastic achievement. We are so proud of the healthy learning opportunities we provide for our tamariki every day!

Last week, the tamariki at Busy Bees Greytown discovered that even the rain brings its own kind of magic. Wrapped in their raincoats and gumboots, they ventured out into the natural world to explore a landscape transformed by the weather. Puddles became sparkling mirrors, raindrops danced from leaves like tiny taonga, and every splash brought laughter, excitement, and wonder.
The tamariki immersed themselves in the sensory richness of the day—feeling cool raindrops on their faces, listening to the gentle rhythm of the rain, watching ripples spread across puddles, and squelching through the wet grass beneath their feet. As they explored, their imaginations flourished and their sense of awe grew as they shared discoveries, stories, and moments of joy with one another.
This experience encouraged the tamariki to slow down and connect, fostering a deeper appreciation for the natural world and its ever-changing beauty. Through play, exploration, and observation, they demonstrated kaitiakitanga by caring for and respecting their environment, while strengthening their understanding of the interconnectedness of all living things.
The rain provided endless opportunities for curiosity, adventure, and learning. Through these magical moments, the tamariki strengthened their mana, resilience, and confidence, learning that every season and every kind of weather has its own gifts.
