JeMMa's HomeBased Childcare Jemma's is a Homebased Childcare and Education service covering Waikato, BOP, and Auckland. Our lear Childcare is offered in carefully selected Educarers' homes.

These Educarers are passionate about your child’s development and are supported by ECE qualified teachers who visit regularly and monitor your child’s progress. We are licensed by the Ministry of Education and follow Te Whariki, the NZ Early Childhood Curriculum. We provide our Educarers with equipment and a toy library to enhance their programmes. Kia ora! I'm posting on behalf of our wonderful educator, Vicki, who has one over 2 space available in her beautiful home-based childcare programme in Mount Maunganui.

Vicki is a qualified Early Childhood Teacher with over 20 years of experience, both in Aotearoa and overseas. As a proud mum of two, she has created a calm, welcoming, and inspiring home where tamariki are encouraged to learn, play, explore, and grow at their own pace.

Vicki is passionate about:

Our educator made He Pihikete Whetu today with the children for Matariki.
Recipe in Māori and English

Ingredients

170 g butter (or Olivani Spread)
¾ cup caster sugar
2 tsp vanilla essence
1½ cups Edmonds High Grade Flour
¾ cup Edmonds Cornflour

To Decorate
150 g dark cooking chocolate
30 g sprinkles
Method

Beat with electric beaters the butter, caster sugar and vanilla for 3 minutes, until light and fluffy.
Sift flour and cornflour into the mixture and combine to form a soft dough. Mould into a ball shape.
Line a baking tray with baking paper. Place the dough on the paper and place another sheet of baking paper on the top. Roll out (not too thinly).
Chill in the fridge for 20 minutes and preheat the oven to 180°C.
Cut the dough into star shapes and arrange on a lined tray. Bake for 8–10 minutes, or until pale golden. Remove from tray and allow to cool.
Microwave the chocolate for 30 seconds on medium, then stir. Repeat until melted and smooth.
Dip half of each biscuit into the chocolate and decorate with sprinkles.

Ūhia tētahi paepae tunu ki te rautunu. Meatia te pokenga ki te pepa, ka taupoki atu ai ki tētahi anō wāhi rautunu. Takapapangia (kei kōrahirahi rawa).
Whakamātaohia ki te pouaka mātao mō te 20 meneti. Whakamahana tōmuatia te umu kia 180° tohurau te pāmahana.
Pokaina ake ētahi whetū i te pokenga, ka whakatakoto ai ki te paepae tunu. Tunua ki te umu mō te 8-10 meneti, kia tūākōura rā anō rānei. Tangohia atu i te paepae tunu, ka tuku ai kia mātao haere.
Ki te ngaruiti, tunua te tiakarete ki te pae wawaenga mō te 30 hēkona, ka kōrori ai. Toaitia kia rewa, kia mōhanihani rā anō.
Toua tētahi haurua o ia pihikete ki te tiakarete, ka whakarākei ai ki te riureka.

Today the tamariki had so much fun making their own pizzas! From spreading the sauce to choosing their favourite toppings, this hands-on activity encouraged creativity, independence, and lots of learning along the way.

Cooking together helps build fine motor skills, confidence, communication, and teamwork — plus it’s always extra special enjoying something they made themselves! 👩‍🍳👨‍🍳
