Kiwitoa Kohanga Reo Te Kōhanga Reo provide education and care in Te Reo Māori, Tikanga Māori and Kaupapa Māori. We i If you have any questions at all please don’t hesitate to ask.

Here is a little description of our beautiful Kōhanga Reo,
Te Kōhanga Reo o Kiwitoa. We have been open since 1986 and we have recently celebrated our 30th Birthday this year. We are very lucky to have our Kuia, who is the poutokomanawa of not only our Kōhanga Reo but other’s as well. She is full of so much knowledge and aroha for our beautiful Reo and the Ao Māori. We have 3 Ka

imahi who teach and nurture the kids under the Kaupapa of Te Kōhanga Reo. Our Kaiwhakahaere is here also, to help guide the whānau with any questions or anything relating to the running of the Kōhanga Reo. Our Kōhanga Reo was opened to help mokopuna, whānau, hapu and iwi to learn our beautiful reo and the knowledge of the Ao Māori, which has been gifted to us from our Tīpuna. We are not here to judge, we are only here to help you and your child/children in learning te reo Māori, ngā Tikanga Māori me ngā Kaupapa Māori and be able to stand tall and proud. We also have Te Ataarangi classes for anyone of any culture who wants to learn to speak te reo Māori. Classes are on Wednesday nights from 6.00pm to 8.00pm every week. Just a koha a class :)

So don’t be shy, come in, say Kia Ora and browse around our beautiful whare with an open mind and an open heart. Ask and you shall receive.

Kiwitoa Kõhanga Reo are going to Rotorua for their end of year haerenga.
And we all are very excited...

We will be updating this page with the fundraiser we have going at the moment

Our first one for the year is our "Easter Raffle" 🐇🐰🐣🥚🍫 all tickets have gone out to whānau of our Mokopuna, but any contributions towards our hampers will be greatly appreciated 😁

Our second fundraiser is the sponsorship for each mokopuna next one will be updated when possible x

We currently have vacancies available for children 2yrs - 5yrs.
Our hours run from 8.30am - 3.30pm
YES we provide pick up's/drop off for children 2yrs - 5yrs.
If you have any pātai (questions) please feel free to call our Kaiwhakahaere (administrator) here at the Kōhanga 🙂 or you are more then welcome to come into the Kōhanga Reo and have a kōrero and a look around🙂

Arohamai for the late updates but here is a quick Update:

We’ve had to adjust to being in Kōhanga Reo without our Kuia, Kuia Nonie.
We had a Remembrance Day for ALL those that had passed on.
We have had a Whakawhanautanga Day with our Purapura.
Along with the other Kōhanga Reo in Papakura & Takanini we were able to hold a Fundraiser Dinner to āwhi Kuia Nonie’s whānau with her Hura Kowhatu.
We had Kaimahi from other Kōhanga Reo attend the 80th for one of our Kuia on behalf of Te Purapura o Kuaka (Kōhanga Reo in Papakura & Takanini)
Lastly, we had our E.R.O (Education Review Office) visit our Kōhanga Reo for 2 days in July and after being beyond worried and nervous, we did it 🙂

In saying that, a lot has happened with our Kōhanga Reo in the first 2 terms of this year.

As a Kōhanga Reo, we have all had our highs & lows but a few things that will always remain the same is our Reo Māori, Tikanga, Āhuatanga Māori and our Whanaungatanga/Kotahitanga. Not just within our own Kōhanga Reo but with all the other Kōhanga Reo. From mokopuna, to Kaimahi, to Kaumātua, to whānau, hapu & iwi, there is always that sense of belonging and being as one when being part of this beautiful kaupapa Te Kōhanga Reo. It may take time for some but it will get there 🙂

Don’t be shy, we are here to āwhi (help) your child/children and also anybody else to learn our beautiful reo Mãori and hopefully all things Mãori.
Everything will be taught in Mãori.

Apologies for the late update and slow replies.

Sadly we lost our Kuia, Kuia Nonie 😔💔😭 at the start of this year. She among the help of other parents were the ones who came up with the whakaaro to start Kiwitoa.
With all her knowledge, her love for our beautiful reo Mãori and te ao Mãori she was able to share all that and more with a lot of people and a lot of children throughout her 32years being involved with Kõhanga Reo.
Although she has passed, her legacy will forever live on through all those she has taught, helped & guided throughout her beautiful 90years.
She will forever be loved, missed & cherished for not only what she had given to the kaupapa of Te Kõhanga Reo or Te Ataarangi but for the strong, caring, loving & beautiful wãhine she was.

So to help keep her dream alive and her legacy going, us kaimahi of Kiwitoa have come together with the help of other kaimahi from Kõhanga Reo in Papakura, Takanini & the Kõhanga District of Tamaki to carry on with the kaupapa of Te Kõhanga Reo.

- We currently have vacancies available for Under 5s and Over 2s.

Don’t be shy, we are here to help your child/children learn our beautiful reo Mãori and hopefully all things Mãori.
Everything will be & always is taught in Mãori.
