🇹🇴 Celebrating Tongan Language Week 🇹🇴

Our centre enjoyed a beautiful week honouring Tongan language, culture and traditions. It was a time filled with learning, connection and pride as our tamariki explored meaningful experiences across all rooms.

In Pūkeko Room, we were blessed to have one of our families kindly sharing their treasured Tongan cultural items with our tamariki. Children loved exploring these pieces and learning the stories behind them.

Kea Room embraced the celebrations too. Tamariki helped make ʻOtai, visited Cosgrave School for a Tongan cultural performance, painted Heilala flowers and spent time experimenting with clay.

Our Tui tamariki finished the week with ball painting and exploring colour, movement and Tongan cultural items. It was a joyful way for them to learn, express themselves and connect with culture.

Did you know? Young children can develop early maths skills through everyday play!

Here’s what our tamariki have been learning through play this week:

Kea Room: Exploring counting, measuring, numbers and shapes through hands-on play.

Pūkeko Room: Discovering shapes and numbers, with some exciting science fun as they created a bubbling volcano in the sandpit! 🌋

Tūī Room: Enjoying having fun outdoors through ball games, turn‑taking, problem‑solving and plenty of sandpit exploration.

Our tamariki enjoyed celebrating Cook Islands Language Week and getting involved in our very own Mini Games Day!

🌺 Tūī Room
Our youngest tamariki got involved in making a yummy Mainese Salad for Cook Islands Language Week, before joining in the fun of Mini Games Day.

🌺 Pūkeko Room
Our Pūkeko tamariki had lots of fun getting involved in Mini Games Day, enjoying movement play and time together with their friends.

🌺 Kea Room
Our Kea tamariki also enjoyed making Mainese Salad as part of our Cook Islands Language Week celebrations, along with plenty of fun and excitement during Mini Games Day!

Flashback to our tamariki exploring, creating and learning through a range of hands-on experiences across our centre.

In our Pūkeko room, children enjoyed picnic and beach-themed sensory activities, sang along to Five Little Ducks with finger puppets, explored musical instruments and worked together to create a special handprint banner for World Friendship Day. 🤝

Over in our Kea Room, creativity came to life as tamariki experimented with playdough and modelling clay while learning about insects through imaginative, play-based experiences. 🐞🦋

What a wonderful week of learning. Last week our tamariki explored a range of hands-on learning experiences through art, obstacle courses, sand play, hopscotch, loose parts and imaginative farm animal play. 🐥🐴🐄

We also celebrated a very special graduation, recognising one of our tamariki as they reached an exciting milestone and prepared for their next learning adventure.

It was a week full of curiosity, celebration and creativity.

Something new has arrived ✨... We've welcomed brand-new turf to our outdoor play area, creating a refreshed space for our tamariki to run, play and explore.

Thank you to our wonderful directors for continuing to invest in our learning environment, our tamariki have been loving every minute of it.

🌱 Growing curious minds through nature 🌱

This week our tamariki explored the many ways we can learn from the natural world.

Some of our preschool children enjoyed a visit to the Botanic Gardens, where they explored the beautiful surroundings and took part in nature-related activities. Back at the centre, our Tūī Room planted chia seeds, learning how small acts of care and patience help things grow.

By giving children opportunities to connect with nature, nurture living things and explore the environment around them, we're helping to build curiosity, responsibility and a lifelong appreciation for our world.
