Friday’s sandpit was full of excitement!

Together, you worked as a team,👏 sharing tools, digging, shaping, and building until you finished a big, towering volcano in the sandpit. So, why not let the volcano erupt?

When the volcano started to “erupt”, everyone was so excited! One of you was especially excited to tell me, “You know what? Mt Wellington is a volcano too! I went there with my mum and dad!”

It was wonderful to see how you were connecting your learning, play, and own life experiences together.🥰 The Mt Wellington we know is not only a maunga⛰️, but also Auckland’s second-youngest volcano.

Who doesn’t love playing with water?! 💦
Our tamariki have been exploring different water activities, having fun while learning and growing along the way. 🌱

• Hand-eye coordination: Watching the water flow and pouring it accurately into a container.

• Hand control: Controlling the hands, fingers and amount of force to reduce spills.

• Fine motor skills: Practising using tools such as jugs, droppers, sponges and syringes.

• Practical life skills: Learning to independently pour, transfer and clean up spilled water.

• Cause and sensory experience: Observing how water moves in and out of containers and experiencing its flow and weight.

🌺 Cook Islands Language Week 🌺

We learned that the 15 stars on the Cook Islands flag represent its 15 islands, while the blue represents the beautiful ocean surrounding them. 🌊

We explored the underwater world, discovered amazing sea creatures, and created beautiful tropical flowers inspired by the Cook Islands. 🎨

We also practised saying “Kia orana!” as a way to greet each other. 👋🏼

What a lovely week of culture, language and creativity! 💙
