On Tuesday night, we were honoured to receive the inaugural Innovation for Impact and Purpose Award at the prestigious New Zealand CIO Innovation Awards. The award celebrates organisations using technology to create meaningful impact for Aotearoa, New Zealand.

As our Manahautū, Kemp Reweti, expressed…
"The real hero isn't the technological foundation that has enabled us to innovate and scale over the last decade. The real hero is our rangatahi."

This award belongs to every rangatahi who has been part of the Pūhoro journey, their whānau, our incredible kaimahi, Trust Board, schools, iwi, partners and supporters who continue to believe in our kaupapa.

Last week our Matatā Scholarship recipients came together to celebrate their journeys and share what inspires them to pursue careers in engineering.

They reminded us that engineering offers an exciting pathway for rangatahi, combining creativity, innovation, hands-on problem-solving and technical skills to create positive outcomes for communities and a stronger Aotearoa.

Their aspirations included:
⚙️ Solving real-world problems.
🌱 Designing more sustainable futures.
🏘️ Building resilient communities.
🤝 Working with people, not just for them.
✨ Inspiring more rangatahi to see a career in engineering.

It was a privilege to hear from Professor Dick Earle, whose generosity established the Matatā Initiative, and former Engineering New Zealand Chief Executive Andrew Cleland, who encouraged our tauira to embrace their role as future change-makers.

The future of engineering is in capable hands. 💙

Together, they reminded us that Pūhoro tauira aren't just earning qualifications, they are becoming doctors, scientists, researchers and leaders who are committed to improving outcomes for Māori in STEMM.
