🌿🥾 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝟭𝟭 𝗚𝗲𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝘆 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘁ū 𝗚𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗲 🏞️📚

Our Year 11 Geography students recently headed to the mighty Manawatū Gorge to support their classroom learning, exploring the geographic issue of managing the old Gorge Road and the balance between tourism opportunities and ongoing natural hazards.

As part of the trip, students completed the 4.2 km Tawa Loop Walk, taking in spectacular views while observing the landscape and the challenges involved in managing this unique environment. It was fantastic to see everyone fully engaged with their local environment and applying their learning beyond the classroom.

A big thank you to the staff who gave their time to support the trip. Experiences like these wouldn't be possible without you. We look forward to building on this learning back in the classroom next week. A special thanks also to Jessie Carter from our Awatapu Media Crew, who took one of the team's cameras along to capture these fantastic photos and help tell the story of the day's learning.

🏐 𝗦𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘀! 🖤💛

Tomorrow marks the final day of the Saturday netball season, and we're incredibly proud of all of our teams for the commitment, teamwork and sportsmanship they've shown throughout the year.

A special congratulations to our Senior A and Senior Orange teams, who will both be playing for 1st and 2nd in their respective grades. Senior Orange plays at 8:30am and Senior A at 10:30am at Vautier Park.

If you're free, come along and support our players as they finish the season in style. The full draw is attached.

🎵 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 🎶

Last night our auditorium came alive as our senior Music students took to the stage for an evening of outstanding performances for their NCEA performance assessments.

The audience was treated to a wonderful variety of musical styles, showcasing both singing and instrumental prowess, all as a result of countless hours of practice.

Thank you to our Music staff for supporting our students, and to the whānau, friends and members of our school community who came along to cheer them on. Your encouragement helps make evenings like this so special.

📚🎭 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗠𝘂𝗳𝘁𝗶 𝗗𝗮𝘆 📖✨

Book Week brought plenty of creativity to Awatapu College today, with students arriving as a wide range of memorable characters from their favourite books and stories.

Among the characters spotted around the school were Pippi Longstocking, Fancy Nancy, Hobie Brown, The White Rabbit, Where's Wally, Roderick Heffley, Jeff the Killer, The Mad Hatter, Thing One and Thing Two, and Hal Moore.

Congratulations to our prize winners, Alexia Fovakis (Fancy Nancy) and Phoenix Lamb (Hal Moore).

Thank you to everyone who joined in and helped make Book Week a little more colourful, and to the Library team for organising another fun lunchtime event.

🍵 𝗝𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗮 𝗖𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘆 🇯🇵

Students from our Japanese Club and Year 9 Japanese classes recently enjoyed a unique opportunity to experience the traditions of the Japanese tea ceremony.

Taeko Sensei shared the history, meaning and importance of the ceremony before demonstrating the careful techniques involved. Several students also had the opportunity to prepare tea themselves, gaining a deeper appreciation of this important cultural tradition.

A sincere thank you to Taeko Sensei for generously sharing her knowledge and to Tomoko Wada-Macdonald for organising this memorable learning experience.

🏊 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘄𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 🥈

Congratulations to Tristan Davis, who achieved outstanding results at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Swimming Championships in Auckland, competing as a Multi Class swimmer in the S19 classification.

Competing in nine individual events at his first national championship, Tristan won:
🥈 Silver – 200m Freestyle
🥉 Bronze – 100m Individual Medley
🥉 Bronze – 100m Freestyle

An outstanding debut at national level has also seen Tristan qualify for seven events at the Swimming New Zealand Short Course Championships in Christchurch this October.

Ka mau te wehi, Tristan! We wish you all the very best as you prepare for your next national competition.

🇯🇵 𝗝𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 🤝

Our Year 9 Japanese classes recently welcomed a group of eight Japanese high school students, providing a fantastic opportunity to experience the language and culture first-hand.

After introducing themselves in Japanese, our students challenged their listening skills by understanding Japanese spoken at a natural pace before taking part in a lively game of Karuta, a traditional Japanese card game that tested both their language knowledge and quick reactions.

Experiences like these bring language learning to life, helping students build confidence while making meaningful international connections.
