Congratulations to our Year 5/6 Hockey team for an awesome day competing in the Whitelock Family Hockey Tournament! 🏑👏

Today, kotahitanga was in action as our team worked together, supported one another and tackled some tough competition — we love seeing our ākonga excelling in the sporting arena!
A huge thank you to our Year 4s who stepped up to support the team after lots of sickness - you were fearless and gave it your all.
Thanks to our fantastic coach Nick, super sub Mum, Becs, and all of our wonderful supporters who cheered the team on — ka pai, team! 💚🏑

A huge shoutout to our Mathex teams for their efforts today. It's not an easy task to do tricky maths problems under pressure, but these guys smashed it out of the park. Thanks again to all the parents that helped out and made it all possible.

Our year 6 competitive team went to a 1st place tiebreaker that unfortunately didn't go their way by the barest of margins.

Our year 5 competitive team placed well, but didn't make the top 3.

Both our year 5 and year 6 challenge teams received a silver prize.

What a nice way to cap off maths week.

Plant to Plate Aotearoa
Our ākonga in Room 10 and Room 12 recently had the fantastic opportunity to participate in Plant to Plate Aotearoa! Out of all the primary schools across Palmerston North and the district, our kura was thrilled to be selected as one of the 40 participating schools this year.

Led by dedicated teachers, team members from Bunnings, and experienced volunteers, this initiative integrates gardening and cooking directly into our school curriculum. The tamariki learned essential life skills around growing their own food, preparing and cooking meals, and caring for the earth’s natural resources. This hands-on experience aligns beautifully with our school’s vision of being a kaitiaki (guardian) school.

Highlights of the day included:
- Learning sustainable gardening techniques and how to nurture living plants.
- Preparing delicious dishes from scratch using fresh ingredients.
- Sitting down as a whānau to share a meal together - a truly special occasion that built a great sense of togetherness (kotahitanga).

If this looks like something that would be of benefit to the learning opportunities here at Wi******er School Te Kura o Te Haonui, make sure you let us know through the Board Engagement Survey found in HERO.

Today, Te Ope Kura visited Hokowhitu Kindergarten to perform our Kapa Haka performance to them. Then our children taught the them a song and the actions.

It’s a deliberate act of “whakawhanaungatanga” or the act of forming relationships and making connections.

The students who previously attended Hokowhitu kindergarten said that they felt a sense of nostalgia when reentering this space after so many years!

Hokowhitu Kindergarten is an amazing learning space nestled in our community and we were very grateful to share this common connection to the transition of learners to our school.

A big shout out to our volunteers and Kapa Haka tutors who supported the visit!
