Palmerston North's BEST kept secret when it comes to Early Childhood Education and care for children aged 2 to 6 years old.

Montessori Educare is Palmerston North's original Montessori centre. Established in 1983 we have been at our current location for over 30 years. We offer an exceptional early childhood programme for children aged from 2 years that uses a modern take on the Montessori philosophy, making learning fun and engaging while reflecting our kiwi culture. Each family is part of our centre's wider family and we pride ourselves on our flexibility and compassion for each of our families individual needs.

100% as well as a calm environment, grounded in respect for all 🙏🏼

This is why we keep calm classrooms, encourage independent work on individual mats and parents say good bye in the foyers and don’t all come into the classrooms while children are working. ❤️

Interruptions are more than just stopping a child’s activity; they can have a profound impact on brain development. When a child is fully engaged in a task, their brain is actively forming and strengthening neural pathways that support problem-solving, concentration, and independence. Every focused moment builds connections that are critical for future learning.

Research shows that interrupting these moments can short-circuit these pathways, making it harder for a child to re-engage and sometimes delaying them from attempting the same task again for hours or even days. This is not just about behaviour or attention, it is about the architecture of the developing brain.

Creating uninterrupted periods of work allows children to fully explore, experiment, and build resilience. By providing the time and space to concentrate, we are helping them develop the cognitive skills that will serve them for a lifetime. Encouraging focus and reducing unnecessary interruptions is one of the most powerful ways to support a child’s growth, independence, and love of learning.

At Montessori Educare children confidently make their own morning tea under the watchful eye of a teacher. They choose their slice of bread, put it in the toaster and wait patiently for it to cook. They then take it back to the table and independently spread on some butter, jam or marmite. When they have finished eating, they wash their plate, dry it and place it back on the table for the next child to use.
Respect is deeply embedded into everything we do here, including putting things back the way you found them. We are always thinking of our friends.

Montessori Educare - Palmerston North - Daffodil Day 2025 17/08/2025

🌼 Daffodil Day – Friday 29th August 🌼

Every day, 71 New Zealanders hear the words “you have cancer.” The Cancer Society walks alongside them and their whānau, offering care, education, and hope through life-saving research.

On Friday 29th August, we invite our tamariki to express their joy and light by wearing yellow or something bright 🌞. Just as each daffodil blooms and brightens the world around it, our children’s small acts of kindness contribute to a brighter future.

Montessori education is deeply rooted in the values of community, compassion, and connection. It encourages children to collaborate, respect one another, and engage meaningfully with the world around them. Our fundraiser reflects these principles, bringing our learning community together to support a cause that touches so many lives in Aotearoa.

This year, donations are being collected online. If you would like to give, please visit our fundraising page and help us reach our goal of $300:

Every contribution, no matter the size, helps sow seeds of hope and support for families across New Zealand.

“Aroha mai, aroha atu – love received, love returned.” 💛
