10 years ago today, we took this picture in my mums shed, with a duvet cover thrown over the beam as a backdrop, a table cloth skirting as a collar, an old as piupiu lying around that shed, and my messy as hair from clubbing the night before lol.
Soldiers Rd Portraits was born… and the rest (as they say) is history.
We have been all over Aotearoa, up and down Australia and around the world to places like NYC, Hawaii, London, Paris, Berlin and Mumbai. We have shot portraits in galleries, garages, museums, rugby/league clubs, strangers living rooms who offered us a spot, mums lounge and Vies nans downstairs (for years) lol and in Prison. We have been on TV, done interviews, made a doco, and been on the cover of major magazines. We have presented workshops in Germany, public speaking gigs at law firms, hold exhibitions in Prison and spoken at Parliament.
We have taken thousands of portraits 💫
Who could have known, what this photo would become and how many people in this world wanted to be captured in the style and the eye of our tupuna, and what connection to identity, truly looks like and sounds like.
What a ride!
