Shadows, Balance & Big Discoveries 🌞✨
Today our tamariki became builders, balancers and little explorers! 🧱🌉
They worked together to create their very own bridge using blocks, then carefully balanced and walked across it. But the learning didn’t stop there… they noticed something amazing — their shadows! 👀☀️
This sparked a whole new adventure as they moved, danced and watched their shadows copy every move. 💃🕺✨
What started as balancing on a block bridge turned into an opportunity for curiosity, movement, observation and pure joy. ❤️
Learning really can happen in the most unexpected moments! 🌱
Lots of Hugs Childcare - Ferguson Street
LOTS OF HUGS CHILDCARE is a homely daycare that provides a playful learning environment and is geared towards the overall growth of the child.
🌊 Sink or Float? 🤔
Today our kaiako introduced the tamariki to the science of sinking and floating! 🧪💦
Each child got to choose an object, make their own prediction — “Will it sink or will it float?” — and then put their thinking to the test! 🔍✨
We loved seeing the excitement when their predictions were confirmed… and the surprises when they weren’t! 😲
A fun, hands-on way to encourage curiosity, problem-solving, scientific thinking and communication while learning through play. 💙
🎨✨ Little Scientists, Big Discoveries! ✨🎨
Today our tamariki worked together to explore the magic of colour mixing! 🌈
What happens when you mix blue and yellow? 💙💛
What about red and yellow? ❤️💛
Working as a group, the children experimented, shared ideas, predicted what might happen and watched new colours appear right before their eyes! 🖌️✨
It was more than just making colours — it was about teamwork, communication, problem-solving, creativity and learning through hands-on exploration. 🧠🤝
We love seeing where children’s curiosity takes them! 💕🌈
🍕✨ Whisk Takers Friday! ✨🍕
Our tamariki have been busy creating their very own mini pizzas as part of our weekly Whisk Takers experience! 👩🍳👨🍳
Every Friday we provide opportunities for children to build independence, try new skills, and have a go at doing things for themselves. From spreading the sauce, choosing their toppings, and creating their own delicious combinations — every step is a chance to learn. 🌱
It’s not just about making pizza… it’s about confidence, decision-making, fine motor skills, teamwork, and celebrating the joy of trying something new! ❤️
Who knew learning could taste this good? 🍕😊
📚🌿☀️ Stories, culture, and curiosity all in one place!
This week our tamariki have been exploring the Legend of Palmerston North and the Māori pūrākau of Māui and the Sun through thoughtfully set up tabletop learning experiences. As children showed interest, our kaiako joined their play, sharing the stories, asking open-ended questions, and extending their learning through meaningful conversations. ✨
By following children’s interests, we create opportunities to deepen their understanding of the world around them, build a strong sense of belonging, and connect them with the rich history, culture, and traditions of Aotearoa. From discovering the stories of our local area to wondering how Māui slowed the sun, every question sparked imagination, curiosity, and learning. 🌞🌿
At Lots of Hugs, we know that some of the most meaningful learning happens when we listen, follow children’s interests, and bring stories to life together. 💚
