Tri-Series Exchange

Last Friday the PNGHS Senior A Basketball team, 1st XI Football team, 1st XI Hockey team and the Senior A1 Netball met New Plymouth Girls' High School and Napier Girls' High School in an inaugural Tri-Series Sports Exchange held in Palmerston North at the CET Arena and the HMI Hockey Turf.

The PNGHS Senior A Basketball team played two fast paced games with a close loss to NGHS in the first game and a loss to NPGHS in the second game - this was extremely valuable playing time for this team ahead of the 'AA' Zone 3 Basketball Tournament during Winter Tournament Week.

The 1st XI Hockey team played New Plymouth Girls' High School in the first game going down 6 - 1. In the second game against Napier Girls' High School they lost 3 - 1. Again, a valuable experience for the team heading into Tournament Week.

The Senior A Netball team played NPGHS first up and won 31 - 24. The second game against Napier Girls' High School was a close, hard fought match ending in a 29 - 29 all draw.

The 1st XI Football team had two good games out on the turf at the CET Arena. In the first game they drew 1 - 1 against New Plymouth Girls' High School and in the second game they had a good win against Napier Girls' High School 3 - 1.

This was a great opportunity for our teams and we intend to replicate the series next year. Thank you to all the coaches and managers who enjoyed this valuable experience for their teams and to the referees and umpires who controlled the matches.

NZSS Swimming

Over six sessions, eight swimmers represented PNGHS at the New Zealand Secondary School Swimming Championships, held in Auckland at the National Aquatic Centre.

Across the competition, our swimmers competed in 60 races, including relays, with more than half resulting in a personal best time. Lily Smith had some standout performances, winning silver in the 50m Breaststroke and bronze in the 100m Freestyle.

The relays were another highlight of the weekend. PNGHS had 10 relays across the weekend, providing swimmers with extra racing opportunities. Two of our teams placed 5th in the over 16 year old 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay and 4 x 50 Freestyle Relay. Each team only had one swimmer who is in the over 16 age category, making this result exciting for next year's relay opportunities.

Congratulations to all eight students on representing PNGHS with pride at the largest NZ Secondary School Swimming event ever held.
