10 DAYS UNTIL WE BREAK GROUND

The final countdown begins.
In ten days, the soil will be turned on the PNBHS Sports Hub.

Over each of the next ten days, we will share another part of the project’s story: who it is for, what it will make possible and the people who have helped bring it to life.
The next chapter is nearly here.

10 days to go.

🏃‍♂️ RUN IT BACK - SUPPORTING OLD BOY ISAAC CHAN

We’re proud to help spread the word about an incredible challenge being taken on by Isaac Chan.

Last year, Isaac suffered a serious brain injury during his first amateur Muay Thai fight, a bleed on the brain. After making a strong recovery, he is now back working full-time as a junior doctor in Auckland.

In January 2027, Isaac will take on something extraordinary.

He will run the entire length of New Zealand, from Bluff to Cape Reinga, a marathon every day for around 60 days, with the goal of raising $100,000 for Brain Injury New Zealand.

The campaign, called Run It Back, is about raising both funds and awareness for brain injury and concussion - something Isaac now understands from both a medical and personal perspective.
Isaac’s journey will also bring him through Palmerston North in late February / early March, and we’re looking forward to following his progress as he makes his way north.

This is a massive challenge for an important cause, and we encourage the PNBHS community to get behind Isaac, follow his journey, share his story and, if you’re able, support the campaign.

In this episode of Under the Grandstand, Hamish McKay sits down with PNBHS Old Boy Nick Wilson to reflect on a remarkable hockey career that took him from the school turf at Palmerston North Boys' High School to the Olympic Games.

Nick looks back on his years at Boys' High, where he developed into one of the school's finest hockey players before making his Black Sticks debut at just 17 years of age. From there, he went on to represent New Zealand in more than 170 international matches, compete at three Olympic Games, and win a Commonwealth Games bronze medal.

Throughout the conversation, Nick shares the highs and lows of elite sport, the sacrifices required to compete at the highest level, and the lessons learned from a career spanning nearly two decades in the Black Sticks environment. He also reflects on life after international hockey, the importance of staying connected to Palmerston North and PNBHS, and the exciting future of hockey at the school with the development of the new Sports Pavilion and hockey turf.

Whether you're a hockey fan, a current student, or someone chasing a dream of your own, Nick's story is a reminder that extraordinary journeys often begin in familiar places, with a love for the game, the right people around you, and a willingness to keep showing up.
